Miami Hosts Kent State in 100th Career Meeting

ON TAP: The Miami University women's basketball team, winners of three of their last four contests, host Kent State Saturday, Jan. 25. Opening tip is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be carried live on ESPN+.

GOING STREAKING: Enjulina Gonzalez has scored in double figures 12-straight games, dating back to Dec. 1. During that span, she has surpassed 20 points five different times, including a season-high 29 points in a win at FIU. She has been named MAC Player of the Week three times and currently ranks third in the MAC in scoring (16.8).

DOUBLE TROUBLE: Amber Tretter has recorded 13 double-doubles in her career, including three this year. On the season she nearly averages a double-double in points (11.2) and rebounds (7.7), despite only playing 26.4 minutes per contest.

ABOUT KENT STATE: Kent State is 12-7 overall and 5-2 in conference play. The Golden Flashes lead the MAC in scoring (76. 1 ppg.) and are led by Jenna Batsch (15.1 ppg.) and Mya Babbitt (12.6 ppg.). The Golden Flashes also lead the conference in rebounding (42.3 rpg.) and rebounding margin (+9.9 rpg.).

SERIES HISTORY: This will be the 100th meeting between the two schools, with Kent State holding a 51-48 series advantage. The Flashes are 7-2 over the past nine contest, but Miami has won two of the past four games in Oxford.

NOTES FROM WIN OVER AKRON: Miami picked up a 76-54 victory over Akron on Wednesday night.
• Ilse de Vries scored a career-high 14 points and added six rebounds, six steals (career-high), three blocks and two assists (career-high) versus the Zips. She was one of four double-digit scorers for the Red and White.
• The RedHawks outscored UA 26-7 in fast-break points and had 28 points in the paint.
• Miami forced 29 turnovers, matching the most Akron has committed this season (vs. Michigan on Dec. 20). 

WINNING WITH DEFENSE: Miami ranks atop the conference, allowing 56.0 points per game (26th nationally). The RedHawks have held five opponents to under 50 points this season and rank third in opponent field-goal percentage (37.8%).
• Miami has forced 383 turnovers this season, second-best in the conference. The RedHawks are 8-3 on the year when they force their opponent into 20-plus turnovers. 
• Miami leads the conference with 12.2 steals/game and features six players ranked in the top-20: Tamar Singer (2.1, 7th), Cori Lard (1.6, 11th), Amber Tretter (1.6, 11th), Enjulina Gonzalez (1.5, 15th), Ilse de Vries (1.4, 16th) and Maya Chandler (1.4, 16th).

THAT 70'S SHOW: It's not all about defense when it comes to Miami. The RedHawks are a perfect 7-0 this year when they score 70-plus points in a contest. Much of that scoring has come in the first and third quarters. Miami has outscored their opponents 297-207 in the first quarter and 290-255 to begin the second half.
 
CHASING RECORDS: Miami has already surpassed last season's win total (9-20 last year) and at 4-3 in MAC play, the RedHawks are closing in on last year's conference win total (6-12 a year ago).

BOMBS AWAY: Miami ranks second in the MAC in three pointers made per game (7.8) and percentage made from behind the arc (35.5%). Enjulina Gonzalez (46.3%) is tops in the MAC and Tamar Singer (39.5%) is seventh from long distance. The two newcomers have combined to connect on 46-of-105 (43.8%) triples.

1,000 POINT CLUB: Maya Chandler has scored 1,177 career points between three different programs. She has scored 151 points with the RedHawks, had 149 points in one season at SMU and in three years at Loyola-Chicago she scored 877 points and was named the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year in 2020-21. She has played in 134 games throughout her career, making 114 starts.

IN THE MAC: Miami has a handful of players at or near the top of several statistical categories.
• Enjulina Gonzalez (16.8) ranks third in the MAC in scoring, while Amber Tretter (11.1) is 19th. Tretter is also fifth in rebounding (7.7), eighth in blocks (0.8) and fourth in field goal percentage (50.8%).
• Tamar Singer ranks eighth in the MAC in assists (4.0) and 11th in assist/turnover ratio (1.0).
• Enjulina Gonzalez is the lone player on the team that ranks in the top-25 in minutes played (29.6, 20th).
