RedHawks Look to Tame Bulls on Saturday

ON TAP: The Miami University women's basketball team travels to face the Buffalo Bulls in a crucial Mid-American Conference contest on Saturday afternoon. Opening tip is slated for 2 p.m. as the RedHawks look for their first three-game conference win streak since the 2019-20 campaign.

GOING STREAKING: Enjulina Gonzalez has scored in double figures 10-straight games, dating back to Dec. 1. During that span, she has surpassed 20 points five different times, including a season-high 29 points in a win at FIU. She was named MAC Player of the week twice during the month of December and currently ranks third in the MAC in scoring (16.9).

DOUBLE TROUBLE: Amber Tretter is coming off her 13th double-double of her career after recording 11 points and 10 rebounds versus the Huskies. On the season she nearly averages a double-double in points (11.4) and rebounds (7.7), despite only playing 27.0 minutes per contest.

ABOUT BUFFALO: Buffalo is 14-2 on the year and 3-2 in MAC play and leads the conference in scoring (77.4 ppg.) with the help of three double-digit scorers. Chelia Watson is tops on the team in scoring (19.9), but is joined by Kirsten Lewis-Williams (12.6) and Terah Harness (10.1). Buffalo is also second in defense (58.6 ppg.) and has forced 353 turnovers this season, best in the conference.

SERIES HISTORY: This will be the 51st meeting between the two schools with Buffalo holding a 29-21 all-time advantage. The Bulls have won 16 of the last 17 meetings, but Miami captured a 72-67 victory in the last meeting in New York (Feb. 18, 2023).

NOTES FROM WIN OVER NIU:
• Miami downed NIU 73-52 on the road on Wednesday night. It was the first time Miami has beaten MAC opponent by 20-plus points since Feb. 22, 2023 (88-67 win over NIU). It was also the first 20-plus point MAC road win since Feb. 1, 2020 (80-59 win at BGSU).
• Miami forced 23 turnovers, while committing just 12. The RedHawks added 17 steals, led by career-highs from Maya Chandler (5) and Ilse de Vries (4).
• Enjulina Gonzalez scored 20 first-half points en route to a 25-point effort. 10 of those first-half points came in the final 2:50 of the second quarter, helping the RedHawks open up a 37-23 halftime lead.

WINNING WITH DEFENSE: Miami ranks atop the conference, allowing just 55.9 points per game. The RedHawks have held five opponents to under 50 points this season and rank third in opponent field-goal percentage (38.0%).
• Miami has forced 341 turnovers this season, second-best in the conference. The RedHawks are 7-3 on the year when they force their opponent into 20-plus turnovers.
• Miami leads the conference with 11.27 steals/game and features five players ranked in the top-20: Tamar Singer (2.1, 7th), Cori Lard (1.8, 11th), Amber Tretter (1.7, 12th), Maya Chandler (1.5, 17th) and Enjulina Gonzalez (1.4, 18th).

CHASING RECORDS: Miami has already surpassed last season's win total (9-20 last year) and at 3-2 in MAC play, the RedHawks are halfway to last year's conference win total (6-12 a year ago).

THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN: Coach Box added seven new faces to the 2024-25 season and their impact was felt immediately. Five of Miami's top six scorers are newcomers this season and five of the top seven rebounders were on a different team a year ago. Freshman Tamar Singer, sophomore Enjulina Gonzalez and senior Maya Chandler, three new additions, have 117 of Miami's 199 assists this season.

BOMBS AWAY: Miami ranks third in the MAC in three pointers made per game (7.7) and is first in percentage made from behind the arc (36.2%). Enjulina Gonzalez (48.3%) and Tamar Singer (46.7%) are the top two shooters in the conference from long distance and have combined to connect on 43-of-90 (47.8%) triples.

1,000 POINT CLUB: Maya Chandler has scored 1,155 career points between three different programs. She has scored 129 points with the RedHawks, had 149 points in one season at SMU and in three years at Loyola-Chicago she scored 877 points and was named the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year in 2020-21. She has played in 132 games throughout her career, making 112 starts.

IN THE MAC: Miami has a handful of players at or near the top of several statistical categories.
• Enjulina Gonzalez (16.9) ranks third in the MAC in scoring, while Amber Tretter (11.4) is 19th. Tretter is also fifth in rebounding (7.7), blocks (0.9) and field goal percentage (49.1%).
• Tamar Singer ranks eighth in the MAC in assists (4.0) and 10th in assist/turnover ratio (1.0).
• Enjulina Gonzalez is the lone player on the team that ranks in the top-25 in minutes played (29.5, 21st).

HANGING AROUND: Senior Katey Richason, along with Clare Chambers, are the lone remaining players prior to Coach Box's arrival. Richason has made the most of the change in leadership. Last season the Zionsville, Ind. native recorded career-bests in points (8.7), rebounds (5.7) and free throws made (34).
