OXFORD, Ohio – Maya Chandler scored a career-high 25 points for the Miami University women's basketball team en route to a 78-63 victory over Bowling Green on Saturday afternoon.
Amber Tretter and
Enjulina Gonzalez added 17 points apiece for the RedHawks (9-5, 2-2 MAC), while Lexi Fleming had 23 for the Falcons (7-8, 1-3 MAC).
How it Happened:
- Miami raced out to an early 10-4 lead with the help of five points from Chandler and a nifty three-point play from Tretter prior to the first media timeout. BGSU closed the gap, 12-9, but a triple from Gonzalez and a layup from Katey Richason to close the quarter handed the RedHawks a 17-9 advantage after 10 minutes of play.
- A three-pointer from Tretter gave Miami its largest lead of the first half, 24-12, but a pair of triples from the Falcons made it a six-point game midway through the quarter. A pair of buckets from Richason and a jumper from Chandler moved the lead back to 12, but once again the Falcons responded with back-to-back triples to cut the deficit in half with three minutes to play. Miami led 40-26 at the half, closing the quarter on a 10-2 run. All 10 points came from Tretter and Chandler.
- BGSU opened the third quarter on a 10-4 run to close the gap to eight. The RedHawks allowed just one field goal in the final five mutes of the quarter, while Tretter, Tamar Singer and Chandler combined for 10 points in a 14-5 run for a 58-41 lead with 10 minutes to play.
- The Falcons began the fourth on a 9-1 run, forcing a Glenn Box timeout with 7:25 to play. Chandler connected on a transition three-pointer and moments later Gonzalez drilled her second triple of the game to push the lead to 15. BG would get no closer than 12 as the RedHawks converted 8-of-8 from the foul line to close the game.
