RedHawks Top Purple Aces 3-1

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — The Miami University volleyball team (4-2) topped Evansville (1-5) in a four-set match (25-20, 25-12, 22-25, 25-22) on Saturday evening to close out the Dunn Hospitality Tournament. Freshman opposite hitter Ana Vetter led all RedHawks with a career-high 16 kills, and Raegan Lantz added 12 of her own.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Evansville began the first set with a 4-1 lead before a number of Lantz kills tied the score at 11-11. The RedHawks took their first lead of the set after Vetter put down a kill, and Ellie Hanson followed this up with a service ace to make it 15-14. Another service ace from Hanson and a Hayden Hicks kill forced an Evansville timeout at 17-14. A couple of late service aces from Hicks and Gentry Warrick helped Miami secure the first set 25-20.
  • Vetter opened the second set with three kills to put the RedHawks ahead 8-3. The Purple Aces closed within three at 10-7. Miami responded by going on a 15-5 run to close out the set with a 25-12 victory.
  • A kill from Caroline Cermack and back-to-back kills from Vetter gave the RedHawks a 3-0 lead in the third set. Lantz joined the offensive push with numerous kills of her own to extend Miami's lead to 13-8. The Purple Aces went on to tie the set at 22-22 and eventually won 25-22.
  •  With the score at 10-8 in the fourth set, Miami found its rhythm, outscoring Evansville 6-1 to lead by seven late in the set. Warrick put down a pair of service aces at the end of the set to make the score 23-16. Despite a strong push from the Purple Aces, Miami closed out the set with a 25-22 victory.

NOTES:
  • Hicks produced a season-high 43 assists.
  • Lydia Michelin led all RedHawks with three blocks.
  • Warrick recorded the most service aces of her career (four).
