LOUISVILLE, Ky. – On Sunday afternoon the Miami University field hockey team downed Bellarmine University 6-1 to capyure their first Mid-American Conference victory of the season. The RedHawks improve to 4-4 (1-1 MAC) and the Knights fall to 2-5 (0-1 MAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The first quarter ended without a change in the 0-0 score.
- On a penalty corner five minutes into the second quarter, Claudia Negrete Garcia scored off the assist from Carlie Servis to put the RedHawks in front 1-0.
- With just seconds left in the first half, Henriette Schlueter scored to double the RedHawks' lead and send them into the second half with a 2-0 lead.
- Just over three minutes into the third quarter, Servis scored off an assist from Reese Wearren to up the lead to 3-0.
- Halfway through the third, Paula Peña Martinez notched another goal for the Red and White to extend the deficit to 4-0.
- With four and a half minutes remaining in the quarter, the Knights got on the board with a goal to cut the difference to 4-1.
- With under 30 seconds remaining in the quarter, Negrete Garcia scored her second goal of the game to make it a 5-1 lead.
- 20 seconds into the final quarter, Reese Wearren scored off an assist from Servis and Sloane Wearren to push the score to 6-1.
- The RedHawks held this impressive lead through the game's conclusion to take their first MAC victory 6-1.
