OXFORD, Ohio-- The Miami soccer team drew 1-1 to start Mid-American Conference play at Bobby Kramig Field against Northern Illinois on Thursday night. The RedHawks move to 4-1-3 (0-0-1 in MAC) and NIU is now 6-1-2 (0-0-1 in MAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Katie O'Malley won a penalty for Miami after being taken down but Makenna Morrison had her spot kick and rebound saved by Ary Purifoy in the 25th minute.
- Tyra King got her head on a cross in from Kelsi McLaughlin in the opening minute of the second half to give the Huskies the lead.
- In the 75th minute, Maris Jennings put in a free kick on the edge of the area that bounced around and found Jamie Hlebec, who blasted it into the bottom corner to tie the game.
NOTES
- Hlebec scored for the second consecutive match.
- The RedHawks extended their unbeaten run to five matches overall. Miami is also undefeated in its last six home matches dating to October 2023.
- Miami had 19 shots to NIU's 10.
- Morrison had six total shots, with five shots on goal.
- Goalkeeper Dominique Popa is now unbeaten in her last 10 appearances.
