Set-Piece Frenzy Downs Cougars

Chicago, Ill.- The Miami soccer team wrapped up non-conference play with a 4-0 win over Chicago State at Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep on Thursday night. The RedHawks are now 4-1-2 and Chicago State is now 0-6-0.  


HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Jamie Hlebec scored her first goal as a RedHawk on a header from a corner put in by Maris Jennings for the opener in the 16th minute. 
  • Jennings got another chance from a set piece as she put in a free kick from a little over 20-yards out that Jay Arballo punched into her own teammate which deflected behind her for the second in the 58th minute. 
  • Jennings, on another free kick, this time from around 30-yards out, found Makenna Morrison with the header just inside the box that looped in for Miami's third in the 64th minute.
  • Talia Whitesel added a fourth after tapping in a cross at the back post from Katie O'Malley in the 68th minute. 


NOTES

  • Dominique Popa recorded her third straight clean sheet and is now unbeaten in her last eight games carrying over from last season. 
  • Miami is now unbeaten in their last four games. 
  • Second straight game where Jennings assisted a Makenna Morrison goal.
  • Miami scored three of their goals from set pieces.

Miami opens Mid-American Conference action on Thursday, Sept. 19 against Northern Illinois. The match begins at 7 p.m at Bobby Kramig Field.
