Game-Winner From Negrete Garcia Powers Miami 1-0 Over Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – A close competition resulted in the Miami University field hockey team besting Indiana University 1-0. The RedHawks improve to 3-1 on the season and the Hoosiers drop to 1-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Each team had a chance to score during a penalty corner in the first quarter, but neither could capitalize, resulting in a 0-0 score at the end of the first.
  • The RedHawks tacked on three more penalty corners in the second quarter, but were not able to get through the defense, keeping the match even 0-0 through the first half.
  • Just over a minute and a half into the third quarter, Claudia Negrete Garcia scored during a penalty corner off of assists from Berta Mata and Carlie Servis to put the RedHawks ahead 1-0.
  • Miami held their 1-0 lead through the end of the third quarter.
  • In the fourth quarter the RedHawks battled an aggressive Indiana offense going with an empty net strategy for nearly six minutes and two yellow cards awarded to Miami defensive players. Despite this, they held onto their lead to take the game 1-0.
