OXFORD, Ohio- The Miami soccer team claimed a 4-0 win in the season opener at Bobby Kramig Field against Eastern Kentucky on Thursday night. Taylor Hamlett led the offensive attack for the Red and White with two goals and two assists. The RedHawks move to 1-0-0 and EKU is now 0-1-0.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Caroline Palmer opened the scoring on a pass from Hamlett in the six-yard box in the 33rd minute.Â
- Katie O'Malley doubled the RedHawk advantage after slotting home a nice finish on a pass from Hamlett in the 63rd minute.
- Hamlett caught a break on the EKU defender and scored her first of the night in the 65th minute.Â
- Hamlett scored her brace on an indirect free kick rolled to her by Maris Jennings just outside the six-yard box for the final goal of the evening.Â
NOTES
- Hamlett's multi-goal game was her first since Oct. 2, 2022 vs. Akron; the fifth-year forward finished with seven shots.
- Mallory Thomas earned the win in net with a five-save clean sheet.Â
- Miami had 18 shots to Eastern Kentucky's seven.Â
- Eleven players made their Miami debuts in the match.Â
- The RedHawks have now won five straight matches dating back to Oct. 15, 2023.
