Miami Falls to Bowling Green 12-4

AVON, Ohio— The Miami University baseball team fell 12-4 in game four of the MAC Tournament this evening. The RedHawks' record moves to 27-26, while Bowling Green improves to 33-18.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Evan Appelwick opened the second inning by smashing his second home run of the MAC Tournament to give the RedHawks an early 1-0 lead.
  • In the bottom of the third inning, Appelwick continued his heroics, making a diving grab at first base to execute the unassisted double play.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, the Falcons hit a groundout to bring home Caden Parker and even the score at 1-1. Jack Krause eventually singled to right center, giving Bowling Green its first advantage of the game at 2-1.
  • Bowling Green added six runs in the sixth inning, stretching its lead to 8-1.
  • Tré Keels and Garrison Barile each reached first base in the top of the seventh inning. Dillon Baker was then hit by a pitch, which loaded the bases for Miami. Zach MacDonald singled to right center, scoring Keels to make it 8-2. Appelwick went on to get walked, bringing Barile home to trail 8-3.
  • The Falcons responded by tacking on a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. With the bases loaded, Bowling Green was walked and then hit a groundout to make it 10-3.
  • A double to right center from Jack Krause added two runs and helped the Falcons push the score to 12-3.
  • Ryland Zaborowski closed out the final inning by lining out to centerfield, adding one more run for the RedHawks. Bowling Green ultimately went on to seal a 12-4 victory.
           
NOTES
  • Appelwick went 1-for-3 at the plate including a two RBI home run.
  • Barile hit 1-for-3 with one run scored.
  • Keels was 1-for-3 hitting and scored a run.
  • MacDonald went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
  • MacDonald moves into fifth all-time in a season for Miami with 62 RBIs (tying D.J. Eckhart and Mike Ferris).
  • Nick Demonica held the Falcons to just one hit in 3.1 innings.
 
UP NEXT:
The RedHawks will play in game six of the MAC Tournament tomorrow in Avon, Ohio at 10 a.m. against Toledo.
