RedHawks Top Golden Flashes 5-2

AVON, Ohio— The Miami University baseball team topped Kent State University 5-2 in game two of the Mid-American Conference Tournament. With tonight's victory, the Red and White secured its first MAC Tournament victory since May 23, 2019. The RedHawks rise to 27-25 on the season, while Kent State drops to 27-26.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Golden Flashes scored first, taking a 1-0 lead in the opening inning. An RBI single to left center gave Kent State the early advantage.
- Dillon Baker opened the bottom of the first inning with a single to the shortstop. Evan Appelwick went on to smash a home run to left center, giving Miami a 2-1 lead.
- David Novak hit a ground-rule double to left field in the bottom of the second inning. Tyler Gordon smoked a single to third base, bringing home David Novak and extending Miami's lead to 3-1. Baker followed this up by singling to the right side. Gordon ultimately scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-1. Ty Batusich fired off a single through the middle gap to score Baker and take a four-run lead.
- In the seventh inning, the Golden Flashes put up their second run of the game to trail 5-2 thanks to a wild pitch. After a two-hour rain delay, the game resumed in the bottom of the seventh inning.
- Miami sealed the game with a 5-2 victory over the Golden Flashes.
NOTES
- Appelwick recorded the only home run of the game.
- Baker went 2-for-4 at the plate with a walk.
- David Novak was 2-for-3 hitting.
- RedHawk pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts and gave up five hits.
