AKRON, Ohio – The No. 1 Miami University softball team downed their rival No. 2 Ohio University 3-1 on Friday afternoon in Game Seven of the Mid-American Conference Championship Tournament.
Madilyn Reeves put in a stellar performance on the mound to push the RedHawks to the victory. The RedHawks move to 47-7 on the season, and the Bobcats drop to 31-23.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Bobcats got the first run on the board in the top of the first on a sac fly, giving them a 1-0 lead.
- Karli Spaid fixed that in the bottom of the first, hitting a two-run homer to also bring home Kate Kobayashi and give the RedHawks the 2-1 lead.
- An RBI single from Allie Cummins later that inning scored Jenna Golembiewski to up the lead to 3-1.
- Spaid does it all, making a superman-esque play at third base to rob a single and get the second out in the top of the fourth.
- Neither team was able to get a run across after the first inning, giving the RedHawks the 3-1 win.
NOTES:
- With the 47th win this season, the RedHawks set a new Miami single-season wins record.
- Spaid hit her 36th home run on the season, one away from tying the single season home run record of 37. She also knocked in two RBI.
- Reeves got the win in the circle, allowing just three hits, and no earned runs. She struck out two.
- Spaid had a highlight reel-level diving catch at third in the top of the fourth to rob a single.
- Bewick went 2-for-2 at the plate.
UP NEXT: The RedHawks will play in Game 10, the championship game, of the MAC Tournament, tomorrow, May 11 at 1 p.m. They will play the winner of Game Nine that is slated for 6:30 p.m tonight.
