OXFORD, Ohio– On Tuesday afternoon, No. 24 Miami took down Ball State University 8-3 in game one of a Mid-American Conference softball doubleheader. The RedHawks had three homers to total 116 on the season, breaking the MAC record that was previously set by Miami in 2022 with 114. In game two, the RedHawks defeated the Cardinals 4-2 and broke the MAC win-streak record with their 21st victory in a row. The Red and White move to 34-6 on the season (16-0 MAC). Ball State drops to 20-23 (7-10).
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):
- Ball State got on the board first with a solo home run to put them ahead 1-0 in the top of the first.
- In the bottom of the second, Reagan Bartholomew lined a two-run single that allowed Karli Spaid and Holly Blaska to cross the plate and take a 2-1 lead for the RedHawks.
- Still in the first, an infield single from Chloe Parks scored Kate Kobayashi. A throwing error on the play allowed Bartholomew to push the lead to 4-1.
- Allie Cummins hit a solo homer dead-center in the bottom of the second to increase the Miami lead to 5-1.
- Kobayashi hit her 18th home run of the season in the bottom of the third to up the RedHawks' lead to 6-1.
- Cummins wrapped a homer around the left field foul pole for her second blast of the day to extend the lead to 7-1 in the bottom of the fourth.
- In the top of the fifth, BSU tacked on a run to make it 7-2 before a rundown ended the inning with Miami tagging a Cardinal out near second base.
- An error drawn by a hard hit from Sami Bewick in the bottom of the fifth scored Blaska to push the Miami lead to 8-2.
- The Cardinals added one more on a solo homer to left in the sixth, but Miami finished off an 8-3 victory.
NOTES:
- Kobayashi moved into fourth in the country in home runs this season after hitting her 18th in the third inning.
- Cummins hit two homers in the game, giving her 12 on the season.
- Kobayashi, Blaska and Cummins each crossed the plate twice.
- Madilyn Reeves went the full game in the circle and got the win. She struck out three and allowed just three hits.
- With their three homers in the game to total 116 on the season, the RedHawks broke the Mid-American Conference home run record (previously held by Miami with 114 in 2022).
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):
- Blaska put the first runs on the board with a two-run homer over left-center to put Miami ahead 2-0.
- Ball State answered back with a run in the second inning to cut the lead in half, 2-1.
- Cummins hit her third homer of the afternoon in the bottom of the sixth to push the RedHawks ahead 3-1.
- In that same inning, a RBI single from Blaska scored Kobayashi to make it a 4-1 game.
- A run scored in the top of the seventh for the Cardinals on a bases-loaded walk, cutting the deficit to 4-2, but it was not enough. The RedHawks got out of the inning just a few pitches later, taking the game 4-2.
NOTES:
- This win pushes the RedHawks' win streak to 21 and breaks the Mid-American Conference win-streak record. The previous record was also held by Miami and had been set in 2021.
- Blaska went 2-for-3 at the plate and knocked in three RBI.
- Addy Jarvis pitched the full seven innings in the circle and gave up just five hits. She struck out six.
- The RedHawks were clean defensively in both games, not making a single error.
