KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Albin Nilsson and
Dylan Moulton staked the Miami University hockey team to an early 2-0 lead at No. 15/14 Western Michigan Friday night, but the Broncos rallied to edge the RedHawks 3-2 in NCHC action.
Moulton and
Thomas Daskas had two points apiece for Miami (7-23-3, 1-20-2 NCHC), while Sam Colangelo led WMU (19-13-1, 10-13-0 NCHC) with two points.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- 6:08 1st (Miami 1-0) | The RedHawks opened the scoring at the six-minute mark, as Moulton won the puck in the center of the rink and found Daskas for a give-and-go at the blue line. When Moulton got the puck back, he slid a pass to his left to Nilsson, who finished off the play for the game's first goal.
- 1:59 2nd (Miami 2-0) | Miami doubled its lead early in the second period, as a long pass ahead from Spencer Cox connected with Daskas at the edge of the offensive zone. Daskas' perfectly-timed relay to Moulton put the senior defenseman in all alone with WMU goalie Cameron Rowe, and Moulton did the rest to put the RedHawks on top 2-0.
- 7:27 2nd (WMU 2-1) | WMU pulled within one on a power-play goal, as a series of passes in the Broncos' offensive zone led to a Luke Grainger score. Dylan Wendt set up the play from the middle by finding Grainger on his right, with Samuel Sjolund earning the secondary assist.
- 17:41 2nd (WMU 2-2) | Matteo Costantini leveled the score for the Broncos with a goal late in the middle stanza, as the puck ping-ponged back and forth deflecting off several players' sticks before Costantini gathered it and fired a long shot past Logan Neaton. Daniel Hilsendager and Colangelo were credited with the assists.
- 4:19 3rd (WMU 3-2) | Just over four minutes into the third period, Colangelo scored what proved to be the game-winner, taking a handoff from Alex Bump and working his way left-to-right to slide a shot into the RedHawks' net.
