ON TAP: The Miami University women's basketball team closes out the 2023-24 season with a Saturday afternoon tilt versus Ohio in the annual Battle of the Bricks. Opening tip is set for 1 p.m.
FRESHMAN PHENOM: Amber Tretter has recorded seven double-doubles in her last 11 games and is averaging 13.4 points and 11.1 rebounds per game since Jan. 27 (last 11 games). Overall, the freshman is second in scoring (10.2) and first in rebounding (7.5) for Miami. She has nine double-doubles this season and ranks fourth in the MAC with 1.1 blocks/game. Her 211 rebounds are the most by a freshman in program history.
IN WITH THE NEW: Head Coach
Glenn Box and his staff brought in nine new players for the 2023-24 campaign. Joining the RedHawks are four transfers and five freshmen, including one from Spain and two from Canada. Eight of Miami's top-nine scorers are first-year players with the RedHawks.
SENIOR DAY: Prior to the start of Saturday's game, Miami will honor four seniors:
Jada Scott,
Jadyn Scott,
Jessie Dai and
Jordan Tuff. The Scott twins, along with
Jordan Tuff, all began their careers at Cincinnati, while Dai joined the RedHawks three years ago.
ABOUT OHIO: Ohio is 11-17 overall and 8-9 in Mid-American Conference play, which includes three-straight wins entering Saturday's action. Offensively, the Bobcats are led by Jaya McClure (13.1 ppg.) and Kennedi Watkins (11.2 ppg.).
SERIES WITH THE BOBCATS: This will be the 101st meeting between the two schools with the RedHawks holding a 59-41 all-time series advantage. Ohio has won eight of the last 10 meetings.
ROUND TWO VERSUS OU: Miami dropped a 71-55 decision to Ohio back on Jan. 27.
Amber Tretter had 19 points and 12 rebounds, while
Jadyn Scott added 10 and
Cori Lard chipped in with nine points.
NIU RECAP: Miami led 30-20 with 7:48 left in the third quarter before NIU answered with a 23-5 run in an eight-minute span to help claim the victory. Miami was 5-of-23 from behind the arc, while NIU connected on 8-of-17 three pointers.
Amber Tretter was tops on the team with 16 points and
Katey Richason added 13.
WINNING WITH DEFENSE: While averaging just under 54 points per contest this season, the RedHawks have leaned heavily on its defense this year. In MAC games, Miami ranks third in scoring defense (60.2), first in field goal percentage defense (38.2%), fourth in turnovers forced (17.4) and third in steals (9.7).
GREAT SCOTT: Jadyn Scott is tops on the team at 10.4 points per game this season, after averaging 3.6 a contest last season at Cincinnati. She has scored in double-figures 14 times this season, including a career-high 27 points in a win over Georgia State on Feb. 10.
RETURN OF THE MAC: While
Katey Richason has missed time this season with an injury, in her 10 conference games this year, the junior is averaging 10.6 points (19th in the MAC) and 6.6 rebounds (10th in the MAC) per game. She has scored in double-figures in 7-of-10 MAC games and had a career-high 13 rebounds earlier this year at Western Michigan.
SISTER, SISTER: Twin sisters Jadyn and
Jada Scott were four-year letter winners for the Cincinnati Bearcats before joining Miami. The duo combined to play in 194 games in their career at UC. Last season Jadyn was eighth on the team in scoring (3.6), while Jada was 11th (1.8). In their first year with the RedHawks the duo ranks first and sixth for Miami in scoring.
WOMAN OF STEAL: Junior
Cori Lard ranks second in the MAC with 2.2 steals per contest. She had a career-high five steals at Central Michigan  and has multiple steals in a game 19 times this season. She has had at least four steals in a game seven different times this year. Lard has turned many of those steals into points, scoring at least nine points in 10 of her last 11 contests.
NEW ADDITION: Jessie Gauna, a freshman on the Miami field hockey team, joined the RedHawks basketball program on Monday, Jan. 26 to add some much needed depth to the roster. She averaged 10 points per game and was a second-team all-league member her senior year of high school.
