RedHawks Crush Bulls 10-1

BUFFALO, N.Y. – On Friday afternoon, the Miami University softball team downed the University of Buffalo 10-1. The hard-hitting RedHawks put up 10 runs to take the game in five innings. Miami moves to 24-6 (7-0 Mid-American Conference), and Buffalo drops to 11-16 (3-3 MAC).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • In the top of the first, two solo homers from Karli Spaid and Allie Cummins put the RedHawks ahead 2-0.
  • Sami Bewick scored on an error in the top of the second. Later that inning, a double from Jenna Golembiewski scored Hadley Parisien and Reagan Bartholomew to push the lead to 5-0. Spaid followed with a single to score Golembiewski and make it 6-0.
  • The deficit stretched to 10-0 in the top of the third when Golembiewski hit a grand slam that also scored Cummins, Bartholomew, and Bewick.
  • The Bulls got on the board in the bottom of the third with a solo home run to make it a 10-1 game.
  • The RedHawks maintained that lead through the end of the fifth to take the game 10-1.
 
NOTES:
  • Half (six of 12) of the RedHawks' hits were for extra bases.
  • Spaid went 2-for-2 at the plate. Kate Kobayashi, Bewick, and Bartholomew each went 2-for-3.
  • Golembiewski, Kobayashi, and Bewick each hit doubles.
  • Cummins, Golembiewski, and Spaid all had homers.
  • Golembiewski drove in a career-high six runs.
  • Madilyn Reeves went four innings in the circle and got the win. She allowed just two hits and struck out four.
  • Ashley Hitchcock closed out the game on the rubber and did not allow a baserunner. She struck out one.

UP NEXT: The RedHawks take the field again Saturday, March 30 to face the Bulls in a doubleheader to close out the series in Buffalo, N.Y. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
