No. 16 St. Cloud State Next Up For Miami Hockey
2/7/2024 2:46:00 PM | Hockey
Miami continues a four-game homestand this weekend, welcoming No. 16/16 St. Cloud State to Oxford. The RedHawks are coming off a hard-fought series vs. No. 2 North Dakota (5-4 [OT] and 4-1 losses), earning a point in the NCHC standings with Friday's result. SCSU split a series at then-No. 14/16 Colorado College last weekend (2-1 OT win Friday and 5-3 loss Saturday).
This weekend's games are set for Friday, Feb. 9 and Saturday, Feb. 10, with puck drop at 7:05 p.m. each night. The games will stream on NCHC.tv, with radio coverage airing on WKBV 1490 AM (Richmond, Ind.) Friday and both WKBV and WMOH 1450 AM The Ticket (Hamilton, Ohio) Saturday. Greg Waddell and Drew Davis will have the call.
St. Cloud State leads 32-19-6 in the all-time series, which dates back to 1987. SCSU is 17-2-4 in the past 23 meetings. The Huskies defeated Miami 3-2 and 6-0 in St. Cloud last November (Nov. 3-4, 2023) in the first conference series of the season.
PJ Fletcher (11-11-22) leads the RedHawks in points and assists. Matthew Barbolini (9-12-21) has a team-high 12 assists, although he has missed the past five games with an injury. Logan Neaton is 6-10-2 in net and owns a 3.06 GAA and .901 save % in 18 starts but hasn't played since Jan. 13 due to injury. Freshman netminder Bruno Bruveris is 1-7-0 between the pipes, with an .877 save percentage and 3.61 GAA. The RedHawks have played their past three games without a half-dozen injured regulars, including two-thirds of the top line (Barbolini and Raimonds Vitolins), and are yet to take the ice this season with their entire roster available to dress.
Sophomore defenseman Axel Kumlin and head coach Chris Bergeron met with the media this week to preview the matchup against St. Cloud State.
