Collegiate Seizes Gold; Senior Earns Bronze at National Championships

LAS VEGAS, Nev.—What happens in Vegas does not always stay in Vegas as the Miami University synchronized skating program will be bringing home hardware, including the Vicki Korn Memorial National Championship Trophy, from its stint at the 2024 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships in Las Vegas this weekend.
 
The RedHawk collegiate team captured the program's 22nd overall and third consecutive collegiate national title while breaking its own national collegiate record with a score of 117.04. Miami's senior team earned bronze medals with a third-place finish at the national championships with a combined score of 191.08.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (COLLEGIATE):
  • Skating second among the 12-team field, Miami had an exquisite, clean skate to produce a collegiate national record score of 117.04, eclipsing the previous record of 116.95 also by Miami at the 2022 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships.
  • The RedHawks notched an executed element score of 57.32 and a program component score of 59.72.
  • It was the 22nd collegiate national crown for Miami and third straight for the RedHawks.
  • Miami finished 8.67 points ahead of its nearest competitors, Western Michigan, who posted a score of 108.37.
  • Northernettes finished third (108.27). Trine (105.61), Michigan (100.36), Delaware (91.64), Adrian (83.17), Michigan State (79.08), Team Excel (74.71), Boston College (65.34), Boston University (63.43) and Massachusetts (59.46) rounded out the field, respectively.
  • Saturday completed an undefeated season for Miami's collegiate team and extended their string of first-place finishes to eight straight dating back to December of 2022.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (SENIOR)
  • A beautiful free skate performance capped the RedHawks' weekend at the U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships as they posted a score of 123.18 for their free skate program.
  • Miami recorded an executed element score of 62.18 and a program component score of 62.45 and had 2.0 deductions. Miami finished with a combined score of 191.08 to place third overall.
  • The Haydenettes notched a free skate score of 154.23.36 and finished with an overall score of 234.42 to place first in the senior division.
  • Skyliners (221.58/150.82) finished second, while Adrian (165.74/109.24) placed fourth to round out the senior field.
