After a weekend off, Miami travels to No. 3/3 Denver for the next-to-last road trip of the regular season. The RedHawks enter the series 7-19-2 (1-16-1 NCHC) after losing 5-2 and 3-1 to then-No. 16 St. Cloud State Feb. 9-10. The Pioneers are 20-8-2 (11-6-1 NCHC) and are coming off a sweep at Minnesota Duluth last weekend (5-4 [OT], 5-2).
This weekend's games are set for Friday, Feb. 23 at 9 p.m. ET and Saturday, Feb. 24 at 8 p.m. ET. The games will stream on NCHC.tv, with Greg Waddell's radio broadcast airing on WKBV 1490 AM (Richmond, Ind.) Friday and both WKBV and WMOH 1450 AM The Ticket (Hamilton, Ohio) Saturday.
Denver leads the all-time series 32-13-3 and owns 12 consecutive wins over the RedHawks (including NCHC quarterfinal series each of the past two seasons). The RedHawks enter the weekend looking for their first victory over the Pioneers since Dec. 17, 2020 and first win in Magness Arena since Feb. 22, 2019.
PJ Fletcher (11-12-23) leads the RedHawks in points and goals. Matthew Barbolini (9-13-22) tops the team in assists. Logan Neaton is 6-10-2 in net and owns a 3.06 GAA and .901 save % in 18 starts but hasn't played since Jan. 13 due to injury. Freshman netminder Bruno Bruveris is 1-9-0 between the pipes, with an .873 save percentage and 3.70 GAA.
Freshman defenseman Rihards Simanovičs and head coach Chris Bergeron met with the media this week to preview the matchup against the Pioneers.
