No. 16 North Dakota Gets Past Miami in Series Finale

OXFORD, Ohio– The Miami University hockey team dropped a 4-2 decision to No. 16/17 North Dakota Saturday at Steve "Coach" Cady Arena. Christophe Fillion and Johnny Waldron scored for the RedHawks (3-13-2, 0-8-0 NCHC). Mac Swanson led the Fighting Hawks (9-7-1, 4-2-0 NCHC) offensively with three assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED

2:27 1st (UND 1-0) | Abram Wiebe took an early 1-0 lead for the Fighting Hawks, scoring on the power play. Swanson and Jayden Perron exchanged multiple passes before Swanson eventually fed it to Wiebe to finish.
6:01 1st (UND 2-0) | Andrew Strathmann doubled the North Dakota advantage 2-0, finishing off a give-and-go sequence with Swanson. Cade Littler initially won the puck along the boards in the neutral zone to earn the secondary assist.
16:03 1st (Miami 2-1) | Fillion cut the deficit to 2-1, lunging in front to deflect a shot from Michael Quinn into the net. Conner Hutchison set up the play with a pass along the blue line to Quinn.
8:02 2nd (Miami 2-2) | After a flurry of shots on goal for the RedHawks, Waldron eventually lit the lamp to even the score. From the top of the faceoff circle, Raimonds Vitolins fed Waldron for the one-timer after tracking down the rebound from Spencer Cox's initial attempt.
3:07 3rd (UND 3-2) | Jackson Kunz gave the visitors the lead back in the early minutes of the third period to make it a 3-2 game. Sacha Boisvert grabbed the puck along the boards and sent a pass in for Kunz to make the quick finish.
8:16 3rd (UND 4-2) | On the power play, Perron scored on a one-timer to extend the UND lead to 4-2. Swanson set him up for the opportunity with a cross-ice pass after Wiebe held the puck in and relayed it across.

NOTES

Brett Miller made his first start in net for the Red and White and stopped a season-high 29 shots.
Fillion's goal was his first since Oct. 26 against Lindenwood.
Cox produced his 10th point as a RedHawk.
Waldron picked up his fourth point of the weekend and his 12th of the season (4-8-12), earning Third Star honors.

The RedHawks will be off for about a month before resuming conference play at Denver on Friday, Jan. 10.
