OXFORD, Ohio – The No. 3 Miami University field hockey team took home their seventh-straight Mid-American Conference Championship on Saturday afternoon, outmaneuvering No. 1 James Madison University, 3-0. The RedHawks move to 13-7 on the season. James Madison finishes their season 14-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Under two minutes into the game, Paula Peña Martinez got the RedHawks out to a 1-0 lead on a penalty corner. She was assisted by Berta Mata and Henriette Schlueter. The RedHawks held this lead through the end of the first quarter.
- The Red and White held their 1-0 lead through the end of the first half.
- Just over a minute into the third quarter Claudia Negrete Garcia scored off a perfect deflection from Carlie Servis to double the lead, 2-0. This lead was held through the end of the third.
- Servis scored under two minutes into the fourth quarter off a brilliant pass from Negrete Garcia to make it a 3-0 game.
- The RedHawks held this lead through the end of the game to claim their seventh-straight MAC Tournament Championship.
- Four RedHawks took spots on the All-Tournament Team, including Negrete Garcia, Mata, Becca Lawn, and Paula Navarro.
