RedHawks Face Western Kentucky on Sunday

ON TAP: The Miami University women's basketball team looks for its first 5-1 start since the 2018-19 season, with a Sunday, Dec. 1 contest at Western Kentucky. Opening tip is scheduled for 3 p.m. and will be carried live on ESPN+.

DOUBLE TROUBLE: Amber Tretter recorded 10 double-doubles last season as a true freshman with the RedHawks. In fact, her 222 rebounds was the most in a single-season by a freshman in program history. This season she is nearly averaging a double-double in points (12.6) and rebounds (8.0), despite only playing 22.8 minutes per contest. She is also 23-of-34 (67.6%) from the floor and 4-of-8 (50.0%) from behind the arc.

TAKING CARE OF THE BALL: Last season Miami averaged 11.6 assists compared to 18.9 turnovers and had more assists than turnovers just three times in 29 contests. Through five games in 2024-25, Miami has 81 assists and 87 turnovers.

ABOUT WESTERN KENTUCKY: Western Kentucky is 6-0 on the season and averages 79.0 points a contest. Acacia Hayes (15.8 ppg.) is one of four double-digit scorers for the Hilltoppers.

SERIES WITH WKU: Western Kentucky is 7-0 all-time in the series with Miami. The RedHawks are 0-2 all-time in Bowling Green, Ky., which includes a 91-55 loss during the 2022-23 campaign.

LAST MEETING VS. HILLTOPPERS: Western Kentucky used a 39-11 third quarter to down Miami last season on Nov. 18, 2023. Jadyn Scott scored 14 points and added seven rebounds, while Katey Richason added nine points and two rebounds in 19 minutes of action.

HIRIM RECAP: Camille Jackson poured in a career-high 27 points and pulled down a career-high nine rebounds as Miami defeated Hiram 97-41 last Friday at Millett Hall. Núria Jurjo added a career-high 16 points and a career-high eight steals (fifth-most in program history) for the RedHawks, who won their third consecutive game. Ilse de Vries chipped in a career-high 11 points, while Amber Tretter contributed 11 points and nine rebounds. Miami finished with 26 steals, one off the school record (27 vs. Toledo in 1978) and were a perfect 14-of-14 from the foul line.

OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION: Miami is averaging 76.2 points this season after averaging 53.9 points last year. Helping with the offensive improvement have been three point shooting, assists and rebounds. This season Miami is connecting on 7.6 three's per game (4.9 in 2023-24) and are outrebounding their opponents by 6.4 boards/game (-3.8 in 2023-24). Miami is also averaging 16.2 assists per game, compared to 11.6 last season. The single-season highest scoring average in program history is 77.5, set during the 1981-82 campaign.

THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN: Coach Box added seven new faces to the 2024-25 season and their impact was felt immediately. Five of Miami's top six scorers are newcomers this season and five of the top six rebounders were on a different team a year ago. Freshman Tamar Singer, sophomore Enjulina Gonzalez and senior Maya Chandler, three new additions, have 43 of Miami's 81 assists this season.

1000 POINT CLUB: Maya Chandler has scored 1,064 career points between three different programs. She has scored 38 points with the RedHawks, had 149 points in one season at SMU and in three years at Loyola-Chicago she scored 877 points and was named the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year in 2020-21. She has played in 122 games throughout her career, making 102 starts.

IN THE MAC: MIami has a handful of players at or near the top of several statistical categories.
• Amber Tretter ranks 1th in the MAC in scoring (12.6), sixth in rebounding (8.0), fourth in blocks (1.2) and first in field goal percentage (67.6%).

• No RedHawks rank in the top-25 in minutes played.
