IN WITH THE NEW: Head coach
Glenn Box added seven new players to the roster, including four freshman and three transfers from Illinois, Mercer and Loyola Chicago.
DOUBLE TROUBLE: Amber Tretter recorded 10 double-doubles last season as a true freshman with the RedHawks. In fact, her 222 rebounds was the most in a single-season by a freshman in program history. She had a career-high 27 points and 16 rebounds versus CMU last year and had 19 points and 13 boards in a win over Oakland.
STRONG FINISH: Miami is coming off a 9-20 campaign, but went 5-5 in their final 10 games of the season.
ABOUT APP STATE: Appalachian State is coming off a 17-15 season and will be led by Emily Carver, who averaged 13.5 points and 4.4 rebounds per game a year ago. Carver has scored 948 points in her career. The Mountaineers feature a roster with 13 upperclassmen and two freshmen.
SERIES WITH ASU: This will be just the third meeting between the two programs as the series is tied at 1-1. These teams have not squared-off since App State claimed a 79-76 overtime victory back on Nov. 28, 2009.
WHAT RETURNS?: Miami returns four of its top five scorers from last season, led by
Amber Tretter (10.3),
Katey Richason (8.7),
Cori Lard (6.6) and
Lakresha Edwards (6.0). Tretter (7.7) and Richason (5.7) were Miami's top two rebounders as well.
WHAT DEPARTS?: Miami is missing five letter-winners from a year ago, highlighted by
Jadyn Scott and
Jada Scott.
Jadyn Scott led Miami in scoring (10.5) and was third in rebounding (4.3), while
Jada Scott finished with 5.4 ppg. and 3.3 rpg.
WINNING WITH DEFENSE: Miami ranked fifth in the MAC in scoring defense (63.8) and field goal defense (.397) last season and were fourth in steals (8.5). In conference games, Miami was third in defense (60.4) and first in field goal percentage (.381).
HANGING AROUND: Senior
Katey Richason, along with
Clare Chambers, are the lone remaining players prior to Coach Box's arrival. Richason has made the most of the change in leadership. Last season the Zionsville, Ind. native recorded career-bests in points (8.7), rebounds (5.7) and free throws made (34).
WOMAN OF STEAL: Junior
Cori Lard ranked second in the MAC with 2.2 steals per contest last year. She had a career-high five steals at Central Michigan  and has multiple steals in a game 19 times in 2023-24. She had at least four steals in a game seven different times.
REDHAWKS PICKED EIGHTH IN PRESEASON POLL: Miami was picked eighth in the preseason coaches poll. Ball State finished atop the preseason rankings with 120 points and were followed by Kent State (104), Buffalo (98), Bowling Green (96), Toledo (82), Northern Illinois (64), Ohio (64), Miami (44), Akron (43), Western Michigan (34), Eastern Michigan (23) and Central Michigan (20).
NEW-LOOK REDHAWKS: As mentioned before, Miami has seven new players on the 2024-25 roster. Below is a small breakdown of the new additions.
Emily Bratton: Was a finalist for Ms. Basketball in the state of Ohio her senior year ... averaged 23.0 points, 7.1 rebounds and 5.8 assists for Bloom Carroll High School last year.
Maya Chandler: Started 18 games at SMU a year ago, averaging 5.0 points and 2.0 rebounds a game ... played her first three seasons at Loyola Chicago, where she started 79 of 87 contests.
Enjulina Gonzalez: Spent the past two seasons at Mercer ... started 15 games as a freshman, scoring a career-best 34 points versus Chattanooga on Jan. 14, 2023. Missed most of last season with an injury.
Ziul Gonzalez: Younger sister on Enjulina ... averaged 14.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists as a junior.
Tamar Singer: She was a three-time captain for her high school ... averaged 10.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 2023-24 ... Represented Israel in the 2023 Under-20 FIBA Women's European Championship D1 in 2023.
Ilse de Vries: Averaged 7.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per game as a senior.
Camille Jackson: Played in 12 games over the past two seasons at Illinois ... was a four-star recruit by ESPN and ProspectsNation.com ... racked up 1,402 points, 676 rebounds, 523 assists and 100 blocks over her 102-game high school career.
