Miami Hockey gets the 2024-25 season —and the
Anthony Noreen era— underway this weekend with a series at Ferris State. Miami finished the 2023-24 campaign with a 7-26-3 record (1-21-2 NCHC), while FSU was 10-24-2 (6-17-1 CCHA). This will be the fourth consecutive season the RedHawks have opened against the Bulldogs.
This weekend's games are set for Friday, Oct. 4 and Saturday, Oct. 5, with puck drop at 8:07 p.m. both nights. CCHA TV on Midco Sports Plus will broadcast the series. Greg Waddell's radio broadcast will be available on MiamiRedHawks.com Friday night and WMOH 1450 AM The Ticket (Hamilton, Ohio) on Saturday.
The RedHawks and Bulldogs split a pair of games in Big Rapids last October, with FSU overcoming a three-goal third-period deficit to rally for a 5-4 overtime win in the opener and Miami claiming a 5-2 victory the next day. The RedHawks lead the all-time series by a narrow 49-46-17 margin.
Johnny Waldron is the leading returning scorer for the Red and White (9-13-22 last year), while
Raimonds Vitolins (6-11-17),
Max Dukovac (3-7-10) and William Hallén (3-7-10) also produced double-digit point totals in 2023-24.
Bruno Bruveris started 14 games in net last season (1-12-1 with a .866 save % and 4.16 GAA).
Of the 30 RedHawks on this year's roster, 17 were on the team a year ago. In all, 19 have Miami experience (
Nick Donato and Augustana transfer
Brian Silver played for the Red and White in 2022-23). Miami added six freshmen (
Ethan Dahlmeir,
John Emmons,
Teodor Forssander,
David Grosek,
Casper Nassen,
Michael Quinn) and five more transfers (
Colby Ambrosio-Boston College,
Matt Choupani-Northeastern,
Christophe Fillion-Quinnipiac,
Conner Hutchison-Sacred Heart,
Brett Miller-RPI) to the group.
Noreen and
Ryan Sullivan met with the media this week to preview the matchup against the Bulldogs.
