OXFORD, Ohio – On Friday afternoon the Miami University field hockey team defeated Appalachian State University 1-0 in a physical game. The RedHawks move to 7-6 (4-1 Mid-American Conference) on the season. Appalachian State drops to 7-5 with the loss (4-1 MAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- During a penalty corner with just over three minutes remaining in the first quarter, Paula Peña Martinez took a shot that was then saved, but Henriette Schlueter took the rebound to the back of the net, giving the RedHawks a 1-0 advantage at the end of the quarter.
- Despite an eventful second quarter that included five cards awarded between the two teams, the score remained 1-0 at the end of the half.
- Following another back-and-forth third quarter, the RedHawks headed into the final quarter still up 1-0.
- At the end of the final quarter the score still remained unchanged, giving the the RedHawks a 1-0 win.
