DEKALB, Ill.—The Miami University women's basketball team led 46-43 with nine minutes left in the contest before dropping a 58-48 decision to Northern Illinois on Saturday afternoon.
Amber Tretter led the way for Miami (2-10, 0-2 MAC) with 14 points and nine rebounds, while the Huskies (7-6, 1-1 MAC) got 15 points from Jayden Marable.
How it Happened:
- Miami trailed 8-4 midway through the first quarter before Cori Lard hit a triple to bring the RedHawks to within one. Tretter then knocked in a three-pointer at the top of the key to tie the contest at 10 apiece with 1:56 to play. NIU answered with a pair of triples down the stretch and led 16-12 after 10 minutes of play.
- Tretter's jumper to begin the second made it 16-14, but the Huskies made a pair of three pointers in a span of 17 seconds to force a Glenn Box timeout. NIU maintained a seven-point advantage at 25-18 before Lakresha Edwards drilled a step back triple and Katey Richason made a pair of free throws to get within 25-23. The Huskies responded with a 10-0 run in the final 3:20 and led 35-23 at the half.
- Jadyn Scott scored the first four points of the second half and after NIU connected on a free throw, Edwards made a three pointer and Richason's put-back bucket helped Miami to within a 36-33 deficit midway through the third. Scott's fade-away made it 36-35 and a triple from Amber Tretter gave Miami their first lead of the game, 38-37. The RedHawks led 44-42 entering the fourth quarter.
- A layup from Tretter made it 46-43 with 7:30 to play. NIU responded with a 10-0 run, holding the RedHawks scoreless for over six minutes of play. A Richason layup with 56 seconds remaining made it 55-48, but the RedHawks could get no closer.
