RedHawks Host CMU Wednesday Night

ON TAP: The Miami University women's basketball team returns home to host Central Michigan on Wednesday, Jan. 31. Opening tip is slated for 7 p.m.

GREAT SCOTT: Senior Jadyn Scott currently ranks 17th in the MAC in scoring (10.4) and is second in the league in field goal percentage (49.4%). She has led Miami in scoring eight times this year and has surpassed 20 points twice.

IN WITH THE NEW: Head Coach Glenn Box and his staff brought in eight new players for the 2023-24 campaign. Joining the RedHawks are four transfers and four freshmen, including one from Spain and two from Canada.

SWINGING 60'S: Miami is 2-2 this season when scoring at least 60 points and 2-12 when it fails to reach that mark. Miami beat Xavier earlier this season with 58 points and is coming of a 56-point victory over BGSU last Saturday.

TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN: When observing the current Mid-American Conference standings, Miami has already played five games against the top-half of the league. Six of Miami's final 10 contests are against teams in the bottom-half of the league standings.

HOME SWEET HOME: The schedule makers also helped Miami the second-half of the 2023-24 season. Miami will play four of its next five games at home (have only had six home games up to this point) and will play six of their final 10 MAC games inside Millett Hall.

ABOUT CMU: Central Michigan is 4-14 overall and 2-6 in MAC play, which includes a 53-45 victory over Western Michigan last Saturday. Offensively, the Chippewas are led by Tamara Ortiz (10.8 ppg.) and Karrington Gordon (9.4 ppg.). CMU is the top rebounding team in the MAC at 41.6 per game.

SERIES WITH THE CHIPPEWAS: This will be the 72nd meeting between the two schools with CMU holding a slight 37-34 all-time advantage. CMU has won 17 of the last 21 contests, but the RedHawks have won the past two inside Millett Hall.

OHIO RECAP: Miami dropped a 71-55 decision to the Ohio Bobcats last Saturday afternoon in the annual Battle of the Bricks. Amber Tretter had 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead Miami and Jadyn Scott chipped in with 10. Cori Lard had a career-high six assists and Hennessey Luu-Brown recorded a career-high five steals.

BENCH PRESS: Miami's bench, which has been a strong part of the team as of late, scored just four points in the loss to Ohio. Previously, Miami added 26 bench points at Ball State, 27 at EMU and 29 in the win over Western Michigan. 

RETURN OF THE MAC: Since MAC play has begun, Richason has averaged 9.3 points and 8.3 rebounds a game. Miami is 2-0 this season when Richason records a double-double. The junior, who has missed the last two games with an injury had 10 points and nine rebounds in a win over Bowling Green and added career-best in points (15) and rebounds (13) at WMU, also a Miami win.

SISTER, SISTER: Twin sisters Jadyn and Jada Scott were four-year letter winners for the Cincinnati Bearcats before joining Miami. The duo combined to play in 194 games in their career at UC. Last season Jadyn was eighth on the team in scoring (3.6), while Jada was 11th (1.8). In their first year with the RedHawks the duo ranks first and fifth for Miami in scoring.

FRESHMAN PHENOM: Freshman Amber Tretter has eight double-digit scoring performances this season and has shot over 50% in seven of her last 12 games. She had a career-best 19 points at Oakland and 13 points at Western Michigan, both Miami wins. Tretter is coming of a 19 point, 12 rebound performance at Ohio and was a perfect 10-of-10 from the foul line.

WOMAN OF STEAL: Junior Cori Lard ranks fifth in the MAC with 1.9 steals per contest. She had a career-high five steals against Western Kentucky and has multiple steals in a game nine times this season. She has had at least four steals in a game five different times this year.

REAL STEAL: Speaking of steals, Miami has 59 steals over their past five games, including a season-best 15 in the loss at Eastern Michigan. The RedHawks have recorded double-digit steals five times this season, four coming in the last 18 days.
