DULUTH, Minn. — The Miami University hockey team fell 6-2 at Minnesota Duluth Friday night in NCHC action.
Teddy Lagerbäck and
Ryan Sullivan scored for Miami (7-14-2, 1-11-1 NCHC), with
Axel Kumlin assisting on both goals. Ben Steeves had three goals and an assist for the Bulldogs (9-11-4, 5-7-1 NCHC).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- 7:22 1st (UMD 1-0) | Steeves opened the scoring to put UMD on top in the first period. After Luke Loheit connected with Steeves on a pass ahead from the Bulldogs' defensive zone, Steeves dropped the puck off for Quinn Olson. Olson's return feed set up Steeves in front of the Miami net as the Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead.
- 0:26 2nd (UMD 2-0) | Loheit doubled the home team's advantage with a goal on the opening shift of the second period. Steeves flipped a long pass ahead off the glass on the right side of the rink that fell perfectly to a streaking Loheit for the finish. Aiden Dubinsky got the play started initially from behind the UMD net and was credited with the secondary assist.
- 10:58 2nd (Miami 2-1) | Miami trimmed the deficit to 2-1 near the game's midway point. Artur Turansky sent a pass out from near the end boards to Kumlin at the right point. His shot from deep was perfectly redirected by Lagerbäck in front to get the RedHawks on the board.
- 15:52 2nd (UMD 3-1) | Five minutes later, Steeves answered back for the Bulldogs. Loheit won the puck in the offensive zone and knocked it to Steeves in the middle. Although Steeves misfired on his first shot attempt, he stayed with the play and converted his second attempt to make it 3-1.
- 18:43 2nd (UMD 4-1) | The Bulldogs found the back of the net once more in the second period, capitalizing on a quick-developing 3-on-2. Connor McMenamin moved the puck to Blake Biondi in the middle, with Biondi relaying it to Kyle Bettens on his left. Bettens was able to navigate the width of the crease and deposit a shot on the far side of Bruno Bruveris to give UMD a 4-1 cushion.
- 0:49 3rd (UMD 5-1) | Minnesota Duluth struck again early in the third period, as Olson stole the puck away near the blue line to keep it in the Bulldogs' offensive zone and fired a pass to Steeves for a one-timer.
- 12:02 3rd (UMD 6-1) | Biondi scored the hosts' final goal of the evening, keeping the puck himself to shoot during a 2-on-1 break. McMenamin and Owen Gallatin provided the assists.
- 15:19 3rd (Miami 6-2) | Sullivan lit the lamp on a third-period power play to make the final score 6-2. PJ Fletcher took a pass from Kumlin and sent it in front for Sullivan to tip home past UMD's Zach Stejskal.
