GREAT SCOTT: Senior
Jadyn Scott currently ranks 17th in the MAC in scoring (10.4) and is second in the league in field goal percentage (49.4%). She has led Miami in scoring eight times this year and has surpassed 20 points twice.
IN WITH THE NEW: Head Coach
Glenn Box and his staff brought in eight new players for the 2023-24 campaign. Joining the RedHawks are four transfers and four freshmen, including one from Spain and two from Canada.
SWINGING 60'S: Miami is 2-2 this season when scoring at least 60 points and 2-11 when it fails to reach that mark. Miami beat Xavier earlier this season with 58 points and is coming of a 56-point victory over BGSU last Saturday.
TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN: With the RedHawks facing Ball State on Wednesday, Miami has already played the top four teams in the conference standings (BSU, Toledo, Kent State and BGSU). Eight of Miami's final 11 games are against teams in the bottom half of the league.
ABOUT OHIO: Ohio is 6-11 overall and 3-4 in MAC play. The Bobcats have won two-straight, picking up a 72-62 win over Eastern Michigan and a 68-58 victory at CMU. Ohio averages 62.6 points per contest and are led by Jaya McClure (12.6 ppg.) and Kennedi Watkins (10.8 ppg.).
SERIES WITH THE BOBCATS: This will be the 100th meeting between the two schools with Miami holding a 59-40 all-time advantage. Ohio has won seven of the last nine contests, but Miami captured an 81-75 victory last season in Athens.
BALL STATE RECAP: Miami dropped a 91-56 decision on Wednesday night at Ball State. The RedHawks were led by
Riley Neal with 10 points, while
Jada Scott and
Maddy Huhn added nine apiece.
YOUTH MOVEMENT: Head Coach
Glenn Box has made a youth movement with the team. He regularly starts three or four freshman each night, and
Amber Tretter has started each of the past 14 contests. Freshmen
Lakresha Edwards (11),
Maddy Huhn (10) and Núria Jurjo (11) have started 32 combined games for the Red and White as well.
RICHASON RETURNS: After missing four-straight games from Dec. 6-21, junior
Katey Richason returned to the lineup versus Austin Peay on Dec. 30. Richason had six points and six rebounds in just 14 minutes of action versus the Governors. Since MAC play has begun, Richason has averaged 9.3 points and 8.3 rebounds a game. Miami is 2-0 this season when Richason records a double-double.
SISTER, SISTER: Twin sisters Jadyn and
Jada Scott were four-year letter winners for the Cincinnati Bearcats before joining Miami. The duo combined to play in 194 games in their career at UC. Last season Jadyn was eighth on the team in scoring (3.6), while Jada was 11th (1.8). In their first year with the RedHawks the duo ranks first and fifth for Miami in scoring.
FRESHMAN PHENOM: Freshman
Amber Tretter has seven double-digit scoring performances this season and has shot over 50% in seven of her last 11 games. She had a career-best 19 points at Oakland and 13 points at Western Michigan, both Miami wins.
WOMAN OF STEAL: Junior
Cori Lard ranks fifth in the MAC with 1.9 steals per contest. She had a career-high five steals against Western Kentucky and is coming off back-to-back four-steal performances versus EMU and Bowling Green a week ago.
REAL STEAL: Speaking of steals, Miami has 45 steals over their past four games, including a season-best 15 in the loss at Eastern Michigan. The RedHawks have recorded double-digit steals four times this season, three coming in the last two weeks.
BENCH PRESS: Miami's bench has averaged 15.1 points per game this season, but that includes 92 bench points over the past four games (23.0/game). Miami had a season-best 29 points off the bench in the win over Western Michigan and added 27 points at EMU. Miami added 26 bench points in the loss at Ball State.
