RedHawks Look to Make it Two in a Row With Trip to EMU

ON TAP: The Miami University women's basketball team looks to make it two in a row with a Wednesday, Jan. 17 tilt at Eastern Michigan.

GREAT SCOTT: Senior Jadyn Scott currently ranks 12th in the MAC in scoring (11.9) and is tops in the league in field goal percentage (54.3%). She has led Miami in scoring eight times this year and has surpassed 20 points twice.

IN WITH THE NEW: Head Coach Glenn Box and his staff brought in eight new players for the 2023-24 campaign. Joining the RedHawks are four transfers and four freshmen, including one from Spain and two from Canada.

RICH GET RICHER: Junior Katey Richason is coming off her best game as a RedHawk. She finished with career-bests in points (15) and rebounds (13) in just 19 minutes of action versus the Broncos. Miami is 2-0 on the year when Richason records a double-double.

ABOUT EASTERN MICHIGAN: Eastern Michigan is 4-10 overall and 1-3 in MAC play this season. EMU has lost three-straight, including a 64-60 loss to Central Michigan on Saturday. Tayra Eke is tops on the team in scoring (10.4) and rebounding (7.1).

SERIES WITH THE EAGLES: This will be the 67th meeting between the two schools, with Miami holding a 42-24 series advantage. EMU has won the last five meetings and the RedHawks have not won at Ypsilanti since Jan. 24, 2018.

WMU RECAP: Miami shot a season-high 52.1% in a 64-50 victory at Western Michigan last Saturday afternoon. Miami picked up its first conference win of the season, sparked by a career-high 15 points from Katey Richason and 13 from freshman Amber Tretter. Miami also had a season-high 43 rebounds, compared to WMU's 27.

YOUTH MOVEMENT: Head Coach Glenn Box has made a youth movement with the team. He regularly starts three or four freshman each night, and freshmen Lakresha Edwards and Amber Tretter have started each of the past 11 contests. Freshmen Maddy Huhn (9) and Núria Jurjo (10) have started 19 combined games for the Red and White as well.

RICHASON RETURNS: After missing four-straight games from Dec. 6-21, junior Katey Richason returned to the lineup versus Austin Peay on Dec. 30. Richason had six points and six rebounds in just 14 minutes of action versus the Governors. Since MAC play has begun, Richason has averaged 10.5 points and 7.5 rebounds a game. She has also connected on 15-of-30 field goals over the past four contests.

SISTER, SISTER: Twin sisters Jadyn and Jada Scott were four-year letter winners for the Cincinnati Bearcats before joining Miami. The duo combined to play in 194 games in their career at UC. Last season Jadyn was eighth on the team in scoring (3.6), while Jada was 11th (1.8). In their first year with the RedHawks the duo ranks first and fifth for Miami in scoring.

EDWARDS EXPLOSION: After scoring five total points in Miami's first three games, freshman Lakresha Edwards has scored double-digits five different times, including a career best 15 points at Eastern Kentucky and 14 in a win over Xavier. She made a career-high four triples in the win over Xavier and seven different times she has made multiple three-pointers in a game.

FRESHMAN PHENOM: Freshman Amber Tretter has six double-digit scoring performances this season and has shot over 50% in six of her last eight games. She had a career-best 19 points in a win at Oakland.

WOMAN OF STEAL: Junior Cori Lard ranks eighth in the MAC with 1.7 steals per contest. She had a career-high five steals against Western Kentucky and is coming off four steals at NIU last weekend.

WHERE DID SHE COME FROM?: Riley Neal played 39 minutes all season long before recording 18 minutes of action in the win over WMU. The sophomore posted career-bests in points (8), rebounds (4) and assists (2) last Saturday.
