RedHawks Win at Western Michigan

KALAMAZOO, Mich.– The Miami University women's basketball team shot a season-high 52.1% in a 64-50 victory at Western Michigan on Saturday afternoon. Miami (3-11, 1-3 MAC) picked up its first conference win of the season, sparked by a career-high 15 points from Katey Richason. WMU (5-9, 0-4 MAC) was led by Artimus Kouki with 12 points.

How it Happened:
  • Richason's three-point play spotted Miami an early 6-4 advantage before WMU answered with a 7-0 run and went ahead 11-6 at the first media timeout. The Broncos led 14-10 after 10 minutes of play.
  • Miami held WMU scoreless for the first four minutes of the second quarter, tying up the contest at 14 apiece. After the Broncos made it 21-18, Cori Lard's triple once again brought the game even with 3:30 left in the half. A layup from Amber Tretter and a three-pointer from Lakresha Edwards gave Miami its largest lead of the half, 26-21. The RedHawks took a 26-22 lead to the locker room.
  • Miami opened up a 39-33 margin with layups from Richason, Jadyn Scott and Riley Neal, forcing a timeout from WMU with five minutes to play in the third. Following the timeout, Richason scored six straight, stretching Miami's lead to 45-33 with 2:15 remaining in the third. The RedHawks enjoyed a 50-36 cushion entering the fourth.
  • Miami kept things rolling in the fourth. Lard found Tretter on a cut to the basket for an easy bucket and Edwards' fast-break layup made it 56-38. WMU answered with a 6-0 run to trim the deficit to 56-44, but a pair of free throws from Neal once again gave Miami a 14-point advantage. The Broncos got as close as 58-47, but a three-point play from Lard put the game out of reach for Miami's first conference win.
