Miami Swim and Dive Falls Short to Cincinnati

The Miami University men's and women's swimming & diving teams fell short today against the University of Cincinnati. The women finished with 146 points while the men finished with 111 points.

How It Happened:

  • The day began with both the men's and women's 400-yard medley relay teams placing first. The women, Madeline Padavic, Sara Lahrach-Sanchez, McKenzie Reid and Nicole Maier, finished with a combined time of 3:43.51. The men, Owen Blazer, Adrian Dulay, Henju Duvenhage and Ian Ian Kmiliauskis finished with a combined time of 3:19.05.
  • Greta Kolbeck had multiple first-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.33) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:58.45).
  • Other first-place finishers of the day were Bryce Menchhofer in the 200-yard freestyle (1:40.82), Padavic in the 100-yard backstroke (55.69), Maier in the 200-yard IM (2:02.01) and Allen Cotton in the 200 yard IM (1:52.03).
  • Other top placements today came from Blazer in second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 49.40, alongside Mason Miller in third with a time of 51.26. Maier placed first again in the 50-yard freestyle (23.05), along with Honor Brodie-Foy in third (23.86). 
  • The team had multiple other second-place finishes today with Lahrach-Sanchez in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.28), Mady Bachmeier in the 200-yard butterfly (2:06.28), Julia Waechter in the 100-yard freestyle (51.47), Chrisna Bezuidenhout in the 200 yard backstroke (2:02.52) and Emma Schueler in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:23.12).
  • Others on the board were Cotton in second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:48.88 alongside Scott Spear in third with a time of 1:53.88. In the 100-yard freestyle, Kmiliauskis placed second with a time of 45.28, along with Jack Herczeg in third with a time of 45.92.
  • In the 100-yard butterfly, Brodie-Foy placed second (57.18) and Reid in third (57.34), and for the men Duvenhage took second (49.32) while Gabriel Perseguin-Dias took third (49.96).
  • For third-place finishes today, Yonatan Rosin took it in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:48.81), Dulay in the 100-yard breaststroke (57.01), Herczeg in the 50-yard freestyle (20.99) and Ben Eichberg in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:06.02).
  • For women's diving events, Sydney Rice took first in both the 1-meter dive (284.25) and the 3-meter dive (315.83). Mia Meinhardt took third in the 1-meter dive totaling 263.70 points as well as second place in the 3-meter dive (259.88). Vivian Niekamp placed fourth in the 1-meter dive (258.23). Nora Kowalski placed third in the 3-meter dive as well finishing with 256.95 points.
  • For men's diving, Jackson Miller placed third in the 1-meter dive (289.73), along with Victor Hearn in fourth (289.05). Miller also placed third in the 3-meter dive (309.45), with Hearn in fifth (290.85).
  • The meet concluded with the 200-yard freestyle relay where the women placed second with a team of Maier, Kaylin Herbet, Brodie-Foy and Padavic finishing in 1:33.45. The men came in first with a team of Herczeg, Perseguin-Dias, Kmiliauskis and Tegan Barrier finishing with a combined time of 1:23.43.

The women will next compete on Friday, Jan. 19 at Bowling Green at 1 p.m. The men will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 20 alongside the women against Kenyon at 1 p.m. at home.
