RedHawks Travel to Face Western Michigan on Saturday

ON TAP: The Miami University women's basketball hits the road for a Saturday, Jan. 13 contest against Western Michigan. Opening tip is scheduled for 3 p.m.

GREAT SCOTT: Senior Jadyn Scott currently ranks 12th in the MAC in scoring (12.1) and is tops in the league in field goal percentage (53.4%). She has led Miami in scoring eight times this year and has surpassed 20 points twice.

IN WITH THE NEW: Head Coach Glenn Box and his staff brought in eight new players for the 2023-24 campaign. Joining the RedHawks are four transfers and four freshmen, including one from Spain and two from Canada.

TOUGH BEGINNINGS: Miami has opened MAC play against three of the top teams in the conference. Toledo, Northern Illinois and Kent State are a combined 8-1 in MAC play this season.

ABOUT WESTERN MICHIGAN: Western Michigan is 5-8 overall and 0-3 in MAC play this season. After beginning the season 5-4, the Broncos come into Saturday's game on a four-game losing streak. WMU ranks 10th in the MAC in scoring at 60.3 points per game and are led by Kaitlyn Zarycki (18.2) and Maggie Stutelberg (12.8).

SERIES WITH THE BRONCOS: This will be the 73rd meeting between the two schools with Miami holding a slight 38-34 all-time advantage. Miami has won five of the past seven meetings and last lost in Kalamazoo on Jan. 20, 2021.

KENT STATE RECAP: Jadyn Scott led the way with 10 points in a 69-38 loss on Wednesday night to Kent State. Miami was out-rebounded 50-36 and KSU made 17 free throws compared to Miami's six.

YOUTH MOVEMENT: Head Coach Glenn Box has made a youth movement with the team. He regularly starts three or four freshman each night, and freshmen Lakresha Edwards and Amber Tretter have started each of the past 10 contests. Freshmen Maddy Huhn (9) and Núria Jurjo (9) have started 18 combined games for the Red and White as well.

NEW IMPACT: Miami's newcomers have dominated the box score this season, recording 90% of the points, 88% of the rebounds, 90% of field goals made and 92% of minutes played. 

RICHASON RETURNS: After missing four-straight games from Dec. 6-21, junior Katey Richason returned to the lineup versus Austin Peay on Dec. 30. Richason had six points and six rebounds in just 14 minutes of action versus the Governors. Since MAC play has begun, Richason has averaged 9.0 points and 6.3 rebounds a game. She has also connected on 10-of-21 field goals over the past three contests.

SISTER, SISTER: Twin sisters Jadyn and Jada Scott were four-year letter winners for the Cincinnati Bearcats before joining Miami. The duo combined to play in 194 games in their career at UC. Last season Jadyn was eighth on the team in scoring (3.6), while Jada was 11th (1.8). In their first year with the RedHawks the duo ranks first and fifth for Miami in scoring.

EDWARDS EXPLOSION: After scoring five total points in Miami's first three games, freshman Lakresha Edwards has scored double-digits five different times, including a career best 15 points at Eastern Kentucky and 14 in a win over Xavier. She made a career-high four triples in the win over Xavier and six different times she has made multiple three-pointers in a game.

FRESHMAN PHENOM: Freshman Amber Tretter has five double-digit scoring performances this season and has shot over 50% in five of her last seven games. She had a career-best 19 points in a win at Oakland.

GOING THE DISTANCE: Both of Miami's victories this season have come in overtime. Miami picked up its first win of the year in a 58-57 overtime victory against Xavier (Nov. 27) and added a 68-66 OT win at Oakland on Dec. 21.

WOMAN OF STEAL: Junior Cori Lard ranks eighth in the MAC with 1.8 steals per contest. She had a career-high five steals against Western Kentucky and is coming off four steals at NIU last weekend.
