Miami Falls to St. Louis

NORMAL, Ill. — The Miami University volleyball team (2-5) fell in a three-set match to St. Louis (5-2) Friday afternoon at the Redbird Classic.

Miami takes on New Mexico State this evening at 6 p.m. (ET). The RedHawks close out the Redbird Classic against Illinois State on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 3:30 p.m. (ET).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The first set was tied at five apiece after Gentry Warrick recorded a solo block and Brooke Jackson added a service ace. St. Louis attempted to close out the set after gaining a 16-9 advantage, but Miami used a collection of kills to come within five at 23-18. The Billikens finished the set with a 25-19 victory.
- In the beginning of the second set Chelsea Williams recorded two early kills to keep Miami within striking distance at 7-4. St. Louis responded with a 7-1 run to extend their lead to 14-5. Numerous kills and a solo block from Brooke Cirigliano helped spark a 14-9 run in Miami's favor. The Red and White eventually dropped the second set 25-21.
- The Billikens jumped out to a 13-3 lead at the start of the third set. The RedHawks fought until the end, but the deficit was too much and St. Louis went on to close the set with a 25-12 win.
- Jackson tied the match-high 2 service aces.
- Warrick recorded the team-high two blocks.
- Taylor Nomanson led all RedHawks with nine digs.
