DEKALB, Ill. — The Miami University volleyball team (4-11, 0-3 MAC) dropped a five-set match (25-18, 23-25, 25-23, 17-25, 12-15) to Northern Illinois University (4-11, 2-1 MAC) Friday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The first set was tied at 7-7 after back-and-forth action at the start. Brooke Jackson knocked down a kill to spark a 6-1 run for Miami. The Huskies closed in at 15-12 before numerous errors led Miami to take the first set 25-18.
- Northern Illinois led 9-6 in the beginning of the second set. Later on, a flurry of kills from Miami tied the set at 21 apiece. The Huskies ultimately edged past Miami 25-23.
- Two early kills from Ellie Hanson gave the RedHawks a 7-4 advantage in the third set. The Huskies went on to even the set at 13-13 and attempted to pull away at 19-16. Hanson and Chelsea Williams recorded back-to-back kills to seal a 25-23 set win.
- A Gentry Warrick kill tied the set at 5-5 early in the fourth set. The Huskies used an 11-4 run to take a 16-9 lead heading into the second half of the set. A pair of Jackson kills brought Miami within two points of the Huskies at 17-15. Despite a strong push from the Red and White, Northern Illinois closed the set 25-17.
- In the final set, no team led by more than one point until Warrick and Williams each knocked down a kill to give Miami an 8-6 lead. The RedHawks attempted to fend off the Huskies, but they would tie the set at 11-11 as the end of the match approached. Northern Illinois edged Miami 15-12 in the final set to close out the match.
NOTES:
- Jackson put up a career-high 14 kills (.524 hitting percentage) and team-high three blocks.
- Williams notched a career-high 14 digs.
