RedHawks Lose in Three Sets to the Broncos

OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami University volleyball team (4-10, 0-2 MAC) dropped a three-set match (25-22, 25-14, 25-17) to Western Michigan University (12-2, 2-0 MAC) Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The first set began with back-and-forth play, as no team led by more than three points until Miami claimed a 12-9 advantage. The Broncos followed this up by going on a 12-4 run to take a 21-16 lead. The RedHawks weren't deterred, as Breannah Peterson knocked down a kill and Hayden Hicks put down a service ace to come within three at 21-18. The Broncos took the set 25-22.
  • Western Michigan jumped out to a 5-2 start in the second set. Shortly after, senior captain Maggie McCrary recorded back-to-back kills to shrink Western Michigan's lead to 12-8. The Broncos fended off Miami's offensive push, as they found their rhythm and closed out the set 25-14.
  • The beginning of the third set consisted of intense play. The RedHawks gained their first advantage of the set at 11-9 after Hayden Hicks and Chelsea Williams combined to score four straight points. The set was tied at 14-14 heading into the back end of play. Western Michigan closed the set on a 11-3 run to seal the final set of the match 25-17.
