RedHawks Take Home Opener 3-1 over Saint Francis

OXFORD, Ohio – In the home opener for the Miami University field hockey team, the RedHawks showed a dominant display, grabbing a 3-1 win over Saint Francis University. This puts Miami at 3-0 on the season and gives the Red Flash their first loss, moving them to 3-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
UP NEXT: The RedHawks are back in action Monday, Sept. 4 at 1 p.m. in Oxford, Ohio to take on Indiana University.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- With seconds left in the first quarter, Riley Mazzalupi scored on a penalty corner to give the RedHawks a 1-0 lead heading into the second quarter.
- Just over a minute into the second quarter, Paula Peña Martinez scored on a penalty corner with assists from Carlie Servis and Berta Mata to double the Miami lead to 2-0.
- Claudia Negrete Garcia scored on another penalty corner with less than four minutes remaining in the half, bringing the score to 3-0. She was assisted by Servis and Madison Workman. This score remained through the end of the quarter.
- The third quarter was scoreless, keeping it a 3-0 game.
- Just over five minutes into the final quarter, Saint Francis scored on a penalty corner to cut into the deficit, but Miami would remain in front for the remainder of the game, taking it 3-1.
UP NEXT: The RedHawks are back in action Monday, Sept. 4 at 1 p.m. in Oxford, Ohio to take on Indiana University.
