RedHawks Fall 2-1 in Tight Matchup with Brown

OXFORD, Ohio – Penalty corners were the name of the game in Oxford as the Miami University field hockey team took on Brown University on Sunday afternoon. The Bears took the 21-penalty corner game 2-1. This drops Miami to 5-3 overall and brings Brown to 4-1.

The RedHawks will return to the field when they face Appalachian State University in Boone, NC on Sept. 22 at 12 p.m.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After a back-and-forth first quarter the game remained without a score.
- Much like the first quarter, the second was full of tension but no scoring, ending the first half 0-0. Miami had six shots on Brown's two.
- With just under eight minutes remaining in the third quarter Claudia Negrete Garcia scored on a penalty stroke to put the RedHawks on top 1-0 through the end of the quarter.
- During a penalty corner just over five minutes into the fourth quarter Brown scored to tie the game 1-1.
- Regulation ended in a tie, pushing the RedHawks and Bears into overtime.
- With three minutes remaining in overtime, Brown scored the game winner to take it 2-1.
