RedHawks Fall to Hurricanes to Open Season, 38-3

How it Happened:
- The Hurricanes scored a touchdown on the opening drive of the game and added a 34-yard field goal on their ensuing drive for an early 10-0 lead after one quarter of play.
- Miami (FL) made it 13-0 with a 32-yard field goal with 2:33 remaining in the first half.
- The RedHawks' offense went up-tempo following the Hurricanes' field goal as Gabbert found Gage Larvadain for three-straight completions, including a 30-yard grab on a crossing route to move into Hurricanes' territory. The drive was capped by a 48-yard field goal from Graham Nicholson with 58 seconds to play in the half to close the gap, 13-3.
- Miami (FL) went 50 yards in just five plays and settled for a 43-yard field goal as time expired in the first half.
- On the Hurricanes' opening possession of the second half, Miami (FL) went 65 yards in five plays that ended with a 26-yard touchdown run to make it 24-3. The Hurricanes added a pair of touchdowns in the final stanza for the 38-3 final score.
Game Notes:
- Jeremiah Caldwell, Larvadain, Joe Wilkins Jr. and John Young all made their first career starts as RedHawks.
- Brett Gabbert moved into fifth all-time at Miami with 6,386 career passing yards, surpassing his position coach, Gus Ragland.
- Alec Bevelhimer, who came into Friday's contest with one career punt, averaged 45.2 yards per punt, including a career-best 62 yarder.
- Larvadain had a game-high eight catches for 80 yards in his Miami debut.
- Javon Tracy recorded his first career catch, an 11-yard grab in the fourth quarter. Cade McDonald's 37-yard grab in the fourth was also his first career catch as a RedHawk.
- With a takedown in the fourth quarter, Josh Lukusa recorded his first career sack.
