Egbert, Leach Sign Free Agent Contracts

OXFORD, Ohio— Two Miami University pitchers signed free agent contracts with major-league organizations this week upon the conclusion of the MLB Draft. Kenten Egbert agreed to terms with the Chicago Cubs and Hudson Leach signed a deal with the Houston Astros.
Egbert was named First-Team All-MAC in 2023 after finishing his senior year 5-3 with a 3.96 ERA and leading the RedHawks' staff in wins. The right-hander recorded 90 strikeouts against just 29 walks in 75 innings pitched. The Tipp City, Ohio native went 8-11 in his Miami career with 181 Ks, including posting a 1.51 ERA during the 2021 campaign.
Leach, a native of Kansas City, Mo., struck out 50 hitters in his first season with the RedHawks after transferring from Creighton. The junior right-hander held opponents to a .208 batting average this year with an 0-2 record and 5.46 ERA across 31.1 innings.
