Miami University head baseball coach Brian Smiley has announced the addition of assistant coach Kyle Trewyn to his staff.
Â
Trewyn spent the previous seven years with Bradley University, most recently as associate head coach and recruiting coordinator. His responsibilities also included serving as the team's hitting coach, offensive coordinator, catching coach and third-base coach.
Â
Trewyn's tenure with the Braves included four consecutive winning seasons in conference play for the first time in program history. He helped produce 26 All-MVC players, six MLB Draft picks, one Freshman All-American and the 2017 MVC Freshman of the Year. Bradley hit 58 home runs in the 2022 campaign, the most the team had amassed in a single season since 2001.
Â
During the 2015 and 2016 seasons, Trewyn worked as an assistant coach at Quincy University, where he was the hitting coach, catching instructor, infield instructor and first-base coach. In both years, the Hawks earned the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional. The 2016 squad set program records for batting average (.334), home runs (89), doubles (124), RBI's (483) and runs scored (517) en route to a 39-win season, while the 2015 ballclub won the GLVC Western Division title. Trewyn helped mentor 17 All-GLVC players, including the conference's 2016 Player of the Year, along with two All-Americans.
Â
Prior to joining Quincy, Trewyn was a volunteer assistant at Bradley for the 2013 and 2014 campaigns, serving as catching coach, assistant hitting coach and first-base coach. His first stint with the Braves yielded eight All-MVC players, five Freshman All-Americans, one First-Team All-American and four MLB Draft picks.
Â
Trewyn has also worked as an assistant coach at Minnesota Duluth (2011-12) and his alma mater, Cardinal Stritch (2010-11). He was the head coach of the 2012 Sheboygan A's in the Wisconsin State League, a summer collegiate baseball league.
Â
Trewyn graduated from Cardinal Stritch in 2011 with a Bachelor's degree in History, adding a Master's of Education from Minnesota in 2013.
Â
"I'm excited to get to work at Miami University," said Trewyn. "Coach Smiley and Coach Scully are two guys that I have a lot of respect for and am definitely looking forward to working with. I am very thankful for the opportunity!"
Â
"Kyle is a great hitting coach who I have watched develop young hitters for the past decade," Smiley said. "His passion for hitting is contagious and our current and future players are going to love working with him every day. We are incredibly fortunate to have Kyle joining us here; this is a big win for Miami Baseball!"
