Former Miami Baseball standout Sam Bachman was called up to the major leagues today by the Los Angeles Angels, the club announced. Bachman, the ninth overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, has posted a 3-2 record with a .163 opponent batting average in six starts this season for L.A.'s Double-A affiliate, the Rocket City Trash Pandas.
Â
Bachman went 12-7 in his career at Miami with a 3.06 ERA and 199 strikeouts in 159 innings pitched. He was named a Freshman All-American and the MAC Freshman Pitcher of the Year in 2019 and earned First-Team All-MAC honors in both 2019 and 2021. In July 2021, he became Miami Baseball's first-ever first-round draft pick and the highest Miami student-athlete drafted since Wally Szczerbiak, who went sixth overall in the 1999 NBA Draft.
 Â
Bachman will join the Angels ahead of this weekend's home series against the Miami Marlins.
