EVANSTON, Ill. – The RedHawks fell to the University of Kentucky on Friday at NCAA Regionals, 9-1.
Brianna Pratt held the circle 5.1 innings before
Laurelai DePew would make an appearance. The loss drops Miami to 37-19 on the season and brings the Wildcats to 31-20-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the top of the first inning, Karli Spaid hit a sac fly that would score Allie Cummins and grant Miami an early 1-0 lead.
- Prior to scoring, Cummins had gotten on base with a leadoff double after fighting off a nine-pitch at bat that started the game.
- Through the next four innings, neither team would add a run to the board.
- In the bottom of the fifth, the Wildcats took the lead 3-1 after hitting a three-run home run.
- The Wildcats hit another three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth. They also hit a two-run homer and a solo homer to take the game 9-1.
NOTES:
- Cummins went 1-for-2 at the plate.
- Pratt grabbed two strikeouts.
UP NEXT: The RedHawks will play the losing team of today's Game 2 in the second game tomorrow. First pitch on Saturday, May 20 is set for 3:30 p.m. ET.
