OXFORD, Ohio – Miami took down Ohio University 8-4 on Friday with some intense pitching from Brianna Pratt and characteristically strong offense from the RedHawk batters. This brings Miami to 36-18 on the season and drops Ohio to 31-22.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the bottom of the first, Riley Coyne took her first pitch deep over the left field fence to grab the first three runs of the game and the 3-0 lead for the RedHawks, scoring Allie Cummins and Holly Blaska.
- In that same inning, Chloe Parks scored on an RBI single from Kate Kobayashi to up the RedHawks' lead to 4-0.
- Maddi Banks scored in the bottom of the fourth on a throwing error after a single from Cummins to increase the lead to 5-0.
- In the top of the sixth, the Bobcats put their first run on the board with a solo home run to make it a 5-1 game.
- Ohio scored again in that same inning on a sac groundout and an RBI single to cut the deficit to 5-3.
- The RedHawks answered in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI double from Blaska that scored Cummins to extend their lead to 6-3.
- In the very next at-bat, Karli Spaid homered to left to score herself and Blaska and push the lead to 8-3.
- The Bobcats made it 8-5 on a solo home run and a double in the top of the seventh, but were ultimately unable to overcome the RedHawks' lead.
NOTES:
- Cummins, Kobayashi, and Banks went 2-for-3 at the plate.
- Spaid and Coyne each went 2-for-4 offensively.
- Seven RedHawk batters had hits and four had RBI.
- Pratt secured three strikeouts and did not walk a single batter.
