OXFORD, Ohio – The RedHawks secured a 4-2 win in game one on Saturday against Central Michigan University with a few hard hits and some excellent pitching from
Brianna Pratt. Pratt also grabbed the win in the second game with a 8-0 shutout. The pair of wins brings Miami to 31-17 on the season and 18-7 in the Mid-American Conference; they also secure the series win. The losses drop the Chippewas to 27-21 overall and 17-8 in MAC competition.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):
- In the top of the first, Central Michigan took a 2-0 lead on a single that scored two.
- On a sac groundout from Allie Cummins in the bottom of the third, Maddi Banks scored to cut the lead in half to 2-1.
- In the bottom of the fourth, Riley Coyne tied up the game 2-2 with a solo home run over dead center.
- Kate Kobayashi grabbed the 4-2 lead for the RedHawks in the bottom of the sixth when she hit an RBI double to score Logan Mueller and Jenna Golembiewski.
- Pratt held off the Chippewas in the top of the seventh to secure the 4-2 win for the RedHawks.
NOTES:
- Coyne went 2-for-3 at the plate.
- Golembiewski and Banks went 1-for-2 offensively.
- Pratt allowed only one walk and seven hits. She struck out five.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):
- Spaid got the scoring started in the bottom of the first, hitting a two-run shot over center field to also score Cummins and take the 2-0 lead.
- In that same inning, Golembiewski took it upon herself to get a piece of the home run action, dropping one over the center field wall to up the RedHawks' lead to 3-0.
- Chloe Parks then followed that up with her first home run of the season to make it a 4-0 game.
- In the bottom of the second, Golembiewski added another couple of runs when she hit a double that would score Cummins and Spaid to earn a 6-0 lead.
- Banks hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth to put the RedHawks ahead 7-0.
- In that same inning, Blaska would close out the game on an RBI single to run-rule Central Michigan 8-0.
NOTES:
- Golembiewski and Parks went 2-for-3 at the plate.
- Spaid and Kobayashi went 1-for-2 when batting.
- Pratt allowed only two hits and one walk. She struck out three.
