RedHawks vs. Rockets: Round Two on Saturday

ON TAP: The Miami University women's basketball team looks to make it two in a row as it hosts Toledo as part of a Love.Honor.Care doubleheader presented by Western & Southern. Opening tip is slated for 1 p.m.

MIAMI'S BIG-3: The RedHawks have three of the top-14 scorers in the MAC, highlighted by Ivy Wolf (17.8, 3rd), Peyton Scott (14.4, 14th) and Maddi Cluse (14.4, 14th). Combined, the trio scores 47 of Miami's 69 points per contest.

TOE THE LINE: No one gets to the free throw line more in the Mid-American Conference than the RedHawks. Through 24 games, Miami has attempted 474 (19.8/game) free throws this season (Toledo is second at 450). Maddi Cluse (102, 8th), Ivy Wolf (98, 10th) and Peyton Scott (96, 11th) all rank in the top-15 in the MAC in free throws attempted and when they get to the line they take advantage of it. Wolf is first in the MAC (10th nationally) in free throw percentage (90.8%). Peyton Scott ranks fourth (66th nationally) in the MAC at 84.4%.

ABOUT TOLEDO: Toledo enters Saturday's contest at 18-4 overall and 9-2 in conference play. The Rockets have won six straight  and rank third in the MAC in scoring (74.1/game) and third in defense (62.7). Quinesha Lockett is tops on the team, averaging 17.7 points per contest. She had 22 points and six assists earlier this year versus the Red and White.

SERIES WITH THE ROCKETS: This will be the 73rd meeting between the two schools with Toledo holding a 41-31 all-time advantage. Toledo has won the last three matchups.

ROUND TWO WITH THE ROCKETS: The RedHawks trailed UT 42-17 at the half back on Jan. 25. Ivy Wolf, who scored 29 in the loss, helped the RedHawks outscore Toledo 46-40 in the second half. Peyton Scott chipped in with 13 points and a team-high eight boards.

NOW "BOARD"ING: The RedHawks rank just ninth in the MAC in rebounding (35.5 boards/game) but, have out-rebounded seven of their last 10 opponents, including +9 on the boards in the win at NIU and +7 on Wednesday in the win versus the Broncos.

HOME SWEET HOME: Miami is 8-5 at home this season and 1-10 away from Millett Hall. That lone road win was on Jan. 18 at NIU (74-69).

HUNGRY LIKE A WOLF: After an outstanding freshman campaign, where she averaged 12.6 points per contest,  sophomore Ivy Wolf has taken the next step in her career. Wolf is third in the MAC in scoring (17.5) and ninth in assists (3.5). She has scored at least 20 points in eight games this year.

GETTING A CLUE: After an up and down freshman season, where Maddi Cluse averaged 6.5 points per contest, the second-year RedHawk seems to have things figured out in 2022-23. Cluse currently ranks 14th in the MAC with a 14.4 scoring average. She is also sixth in rebounding (7.5). The sophomore has seven double-doubles this season (and one triple-double) after recording just two her freshman campaign.

MAGICAL MILESTONES: The RedHawks have had several individual moments during the 2022-23 season:
• Dec. 11 -- Ivy Wolf scored her 500th career point, the third fastest in program history to do so.
• Dec. 16 -- Peyton Scott scored her 1,500th career point.
• Dec. 16 -- Maddi Cluse recorded the second triple-double in program history, registering 18 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in an 82-56 win over Bradley. The last triple-double for Miami was from Linda Mallender on Dec. 14, 1984.
• Dec. 17 -- Peyton Scott secured her 500th career rebound, becoming just one of three RedHawks in program history to score 1,500 points and record 500 career rebounds.
• Feb. 8 -- Maddi Cluse scored her 500th career point in the win over WMU.

GREAT SCOTT: Senior guard Peyton Scott has accomplished a ton since arriving in Oxford, all while maintaining a 3.78 grade-point average and majoring in sports leadership and management.
• Scott suffered an ACL tear on March 5, 2022 at Akron and returned to play on Nov. 21, 2022 against Western Kentucky.
• She has scored 1,743 points and ranks fourth all-time on Miami's scoring list.
• Scott was named to the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Preseason Award Watch List.
• Two seasons ago, she scored 30-plus points in five different games, including 39 versus Ball State, a new Millett Hall record. She has surpassed 30-plus points six different times in her career.
• She has scored in double figures 89 times in her career and has surpassed 20 points 32 different times.
• Named second-team All-MAC the past two seasons and was on the MAC All-Freshman team in 2019-20.
• Scott has started 101 of 104 games in her career.

SHOOTING STARS: Miami is having its best season shooting under Coach Hendrix. As a team, Miami is shooting 42.2% from the floor (previous best was 40.3% in 2021-22) and 33.5% from behind the arc (previous best was 29.2% in 2021-22). Miami currently ranks fourth in the MAC as a team in three-point percentage.

SAVING THE BEST FOR LAST: In Amani Freeman's first three years, she combined to score 134 points and pull down 52 rebounds ... TOTAL. This season alone, Freeman has scored 174 points and added 55 rebounds. She is coming off a 16 points/10 rebound performance against WMU.
