Persson Captures NCHC Goaltender of Month Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Miami goaltender Ludvig Persson was named NCHC Goaltender of the Month, the conference announced today.

Persson averaged nearly 39 saves a game for Miami in February, helping the RedHawks earn points in the NCHC standings in four of his five appearances. Persson backstopped Miami to a pair of ties at then-No. 5 St. Cloud State, snapping a string of 11 consecutive losses in the Huskies' building. The first tie featured the longest shootout in league history (10 rounds). In Miami's next series, Persson made a season-high 49 saves against Omaha after missing the previous night's game due to illness. He finished the month with a stellar series at Minnesota Duluth, including making 50 saves Saturday to lift Miami to its second-ever victory in Duluth. The RedHawks won the game 4-1 despite getting outshot 51-24. Persson, the only active NCHC goaltender to make 50 saves in a game, accomplished the feat for the third time in his career, earning First Star honors.

The junior goaltender from Hindas, Sweden moved into the top five in program history for career saves this month, and now has 2,387 to his credit. Persson posted a .946 save percentage and 2.14 GAA in February, and Miami successfully killed 26 of 27 penalties during his five February games in net.

This is the second career NCHC monthly award for Persson, a Marketing major in the Farmer School of Business. He was also named the conference's Co-Goaltender of the Week on Monday.

Persson and the RedHawks conclude the regular season this weekend with a home series against No. 8 Western Michigan. Puck drop on Friday, March 3 is set for 7:05 p.m. at Steve "Coach" Cady Arena.
