OXFORD, Ohio — Ludvig Persson made a season-high 49 saves, but the Miami University hockey team fell 3-2 in overtime to No. 15 Omaha on Saturday at Steve "Coach" Cady Arena.
Hampus Rydqvist and
Robby Drazner scored for the RedHawks (7-19-4, 2-15-3 NCHC), staking Miami to a 2-0 lead. The Mavericks (17-10-3, 12-6-2 NCHC) retaliated with a goal of their own late in the second period and tied things up with four minutes left in regulation before claiming victory in the early seconds of overtime. The result gives Miami one point in the conference standings, with two going to the visitors.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- 15:54 1st (Miami 1-0) | The RedHawks struck first to take the lead toward the end of the first period. As a Miami power play expired, Dylan Moulton received the puck at Omaha's blue line, where he looped out of the zone to center ice before passing back in to Rydqvist. Rydqvist fired a long shot from the wall that slipped past UNO's Jake Kucharski to make it 1-0.
- 1:29 2nd (Miami 2-0) | Less than two minutes into the second period, the RedHawks went up 2-0. Drazner received the puck waiting near the Mavericks' blue line, passing over to Alex Murray for a shot that was deflected off Omaha's goalie. Drazner corralled the long rebound and lasered one in for the goal.
- 16:45 2nd (Omaha 2-1) | The Mavericks were able to get on the board before the end of the second period. Short-handed and deep in his own zone, Cameron Berg grabbed the puck and handled it all the way down the ice, depositing it to Jake Pivonka just past Miami's blue line. Pivonka hit the one–timer to trim the RedHawks' lead to 2-1.
- 15:59 3rd (Omaha 2-2) | Omaha tied the game late in the third period. Berg received the puck against the RedHawks' wall, taking a shot toward the net that was caught up in defenders. Brock Bremer got his stick on it before it was picked up by Nolan Sullivan, who brought it behind the net and slipped it past Persson.
- 0:18 OT (Omaha 3-2) | Early in overtime, Jonny Tychonick handed off the puck to Ty Mueller, who brought it out of the Mavericks' zone and landed a shot that deflected off Persson. Jack Randl finished off the play for the game-winning goal.
