RedHawks Fall at CMU, 83-80

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Despite 26 points from Peyton Scott and 24 from Maddi Cluse, the Miami University women's basketball team fell 83-80 to Central Michigan on Wednesday evening. The loss drops Miami to 9-17 overall and 4-9 in Mid-American Conference play, while CMU improves to 6-18 overall and 4-9 in MAC play.
Scott and Cluse combined to score 50 points and Amani Freeman chipped in with 13. Sierra Morrow had a game-high nine rebounds and Scott added eight. Sydney Harris led the Chippewas with 24 points.

How it Happened:
- CMU scored the game's first six points, but a layup from Katey Richason tied the game at 8-8 midway through the first. The Chippewas once again claimed a six-point advantage at 14-8 with four minutes to go, but a pull-up jumper from Scott knotted the game at 14 apiece late in the opening stanza. CMU led 18-14 after one.
- The Chips took its largest lead of the half, 28-20, with 6:23 remaining in the half. A Freeman layup, followed by Miami's first triple of the game from Cluse, closed the gap, 28-25. Miami trailed 35-29 with two minutes left in the half and closed the quarter on a 7-0 run to lead 36-35 after 20 minutes of play.
- It was a one-possession game for much of the third quarter before a 6-0 CMU run spotted the Chippewas a 47-42 advantage with four minutes left in the quarter. A Scott triple knotted it at 48 apiece with two minutes to play, but CMU finished the third on a 5-2 run and led 53-50.
- A pair of free throws from Cluse gave Miami a 56-55 lead, but a 13-4 run from the Chips gave CMU an eight-point advantage, 68-60, with four minutes to play. Cluse cut the lead to five with a triple from the corner and following a CMU free throw, Ivy Wolf scored inside the paint. Moments later Scott stripped the ball and went coast-to-coast as the RedHawks trailed 69-67 with 2:35 to play. CMU scored the next five to lead 74-67. Cluse connected on her fourth three pointer of the game to shrink the deficit to 78-74, and after CMU made a pair of free throws, Scott pulled up from behind the arc to make it 80-77 with 15 seconds to go. A last second triple from Scott made it 83-80 CMU.

- The RedHawks out-rebounded the Chippewas 37-32.
- Miami was 19-for-21 from the foul line.
