Miami Falls to Toledo 71-58

OXFORD, Ohio— The Miami University women's basketball team fell to Toledo by a score of 71-58 Saturday afternoon at Millett Hall. Peyton Scott scored 21 points with nine rebounds and three steals to lead the RedHawks (9-16, 4-8 MAC). Sierra Morrow contributed 12 points and Maddi Cluse added 10. Quinesha Lockett had 21 points for the Rockets (19-4, 10-2 MAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Redhawks got their first points on a nice look inside from Sydney Watkins to Amani Freeman and climbed out to a 9-4 lead by the media timeout. Toledo responded with a 9-0 spurt to go on top, but Scott muscled a shot up and in with 20 seconds remaining in the quarter to pull the home team within 13-11.
  • Morrow exploded for 10 points in the first five minutes of the second quarter to push Miami to a 26-20 advantage. Toledo answered back with seven straight points, but Scott immediately buried a triple to stop the Rockets' run. A buzzer-beating three-point attempt was no good for the RedHawks, leaving the visitors up by two (33-31) at the break despite leading for just over four minutes in a half that featured eight lead changes.
  • Toledo started the second half with a 16-3 run to take its largest lead of the game at 49-34. Miami battled back to trim the margin to single digits at 53-45 after consecutive shots by Scott from behind the arc in the final minute of the quarter.
  • Cluse scored on back-to-back trips midway through the fourth quarter to help keep Miami close, and the RedHawks closed within seven points when the sophomore converted a pair of free throws at the 4:50 mark. However, the Rockets made enough plays down the stretch to extend their winning streak to seven games.

NOTES
  • Scott recorded her 33rd career game with 20 or more points, the fourth-highest total for any player in Miami history.
  • Cluse scored in double figures for the 20th time this season.
  • Scott played all 40 minutes and matched her career high with five made three-pointers.
  • Ivy Wolf had a game-high six assists.
